Half Blood Prince is on TV right now so got me thinking. Are there any Harry Potter movie fans on here? Maybe not so might be a pointless exercise haha.

If there are though, how would you rank all of the movies? Mine:

8: Chamber of Secrets
7: Sorcerer's Stone
6: Goblet of Fire
5: Half Blood Prince
4: Deathly Hallows Part I
3: Prisoner of Azkaban
2: Deathly Hallows Part II
1: Order of the Phoenix

1-5 I could watch really at any time. The last three I am very meh about. Not bad, but not really good like the rest.

I've soured on the whole franchise due to JKR's nonsense, but I'd rate the movies:

8: Half-Blood Prince
7. Goblet of Fire
6. Chamber of Secrets
5. Order of the Phoenix
4. Deathly Hallows II
3. Deathly Hallows I
2. Sorcerer's Stone
1. Prisoner of Azkaban

I’ve seen them all but have a hard time remembering them since it’s been so long.

Probably sorcerer’s stone as my first one because of the nostalgia and chamber of secrets as my last one because giant spiders

I’ve seen the whole series many times through. But it really is hard to rank. 1-5. Goblet of Fire pains me to put at 6 because I probably like it the most. But the story doesn’t compare to the top 5

1. Deathly Hallows Part 1
2. Deathly Hallows Part 2
3. Prisoner of Azkaban
4. Order of the Phoenix
5. Half Blood Prince
6. Goblet of Fire
7. Chamber of Secrets
8. Sorcerers Stone

Not much of a fan of the movies.... the books were awesome.

There is a brand new Harry Potter pinball machine now out. It plays really nicely.

1) Chamber of Secrets
2) Sorcerers Stone
The first two are the only ones that actually feel like cohesive movies and Christopher Columbus does a great job making it feel magical, along with the John Williams score.

3) Prisoner of Azkaban
Cuaron is a fantastic director - and his style really carries through, but I don't think it his visual style lends itself well to Harry Potter. The script is also a mess.

4) Deathly Hallows 1 - I hate Yates, but it's the only movie after the first 3 that is well paced and his ugly visual style actually works.
5) Goblet of Fire - Mike Newell is a terrible director but in all the fun ways. Some really absurd blocking and over dramatic performances make it a dumb movie but fun to watch.

6) Deathly Hallows 2
7) Half Blood Prince
8) Order of the Phoenix
I hate David Yates' direction so much. All of his movies mistake interesting cinematography with slapping a color gradient over every scene. There is next to no score in any of his movies and every single dialogue is awkward and stilted. Deathly Hallows 2 doesn't have any sort of narrative arc or structure, but at least every scene isn't drenched in blue green or white.

My son just turned 9 a couple weeks ago and bought him the series for his birthday. Going to watch the movies with him after he finishes each book. I'm also re-reading alongside him to discuss, currently 140 pages behind on Year 2, hard to keep up. Will have to remember to come back later and update. We also have Lego HP for Xbox so playing that too.

I've seen them but am no expert on them, I do think Prisoners of Azkaban is probably my favorite and Sirius Black is probably my favorite character.

I’VE DONE MY WAITING! IN AZKABAN!

yeah Azkaban a clear #1 for me.

Top tier:
Half blood Prince
Order of the phoenix
Deathly hallows pt 2

2nd tier:
Chamber or secrets
Sorcerers stone
Prisoner of Azkaban

3rd tier:
Goblet of Fire
Deathly Hallows pt1.

Deathly Hallows pt 1 was the hardest to place. It’s good, but a little slower and just more of a build up to pt 2, obviously.

Hell they are all good, I tried placing them. I’m excited to see the new show, but it will be weird with all new actors.

I'm reading the books to my 9 YO right now - we're a little over halfway through Azkaban. This is the first time I've reread the books since they came out. We're watching the movie after each book. I remember liking the movies well enough when they first came out - I was just so glad they were making them to be too critical of them. Watching them again now (just the first 2 so far), the pacing feels very choppy. They're long movies, but still too short to do the books justice. I'm hoping a TV series will be a better fit.
