Heather and Lucas were both on my Mount Rushmore of Unlistenable.

Most schools have gone away from curtain raisers. Part of it could be related to participation numbers. However, even before numbers issues, it was a financial reason. Play lower level games on Mondays and/or Thursday with varsity games on Fridays. That way you collect two admissions instead of one.

Christian Wiggins out for the 2026-27 season with a torn achilles

The year round work load (AAU/club/travel ball) that starts when kids can walk (sarcasm) has had a drastic impact in my opinion.

    New WR

I swear I saw these highlights a year or so ago. Maybe it was more recent than that, and this has been discussed before regarding this fall?

I feel bad for all of those that lost their jobs, but Heather has never been my cup of tea. Discussing tweets on air (even if they are inaccurate or fake) is not being informed. And I never understood the point of Ask 5-0 Anything segments other than to fill time. Didn't mind her on 100.3 though.

The last sentence of your post is a disappointing statement if you are a coach. If a kid isn't good by 9th grade, he/she won't ever be good? The point of development isn't to be good. It's to get better. Everybody can get better. The program I am currently a part of doesn't win because of our...

Agreed. My practice organization was largely the same in Class A as it was in 5A. It looks different but coaching at every level is about development.

This isn't mean to be critical. I've been a head and assistant coach of multiple sports from Class A to 5A. It's always about skills and fundamentals. You can be a play calling genius, but if the kids don't have the fundamentals to execute the scheme (no matter the sport) , the play is dead in...

The best programs, no matter the sport, continue to hammer the fundamentals in season and out of season at all levels. There will always be exceptions with freaks of nature that can get by on natural ability. Good coaches and good programs I have been around have always been about fundamentals...

Any coach worth a damn is teaching skills long past 9th grade, no matter the sport. If not, it will eventually catch up to them, and they won't be coaching long.

Milan Momcilovic withdraws from the 2026 NBA Draft

I'm curious. How would him getting $6 million dollars now hurt his future draft prospects? Personally, I think he's a fringe NBA guy. Just my opinion. Getting paid now will have no bearing on his getting drafted or not next season.

Do You Remember the Des Moines Grand Prix?

Grew up in a nearby small town of about 2,000 people. Our final drive test for Driver's Ed included a downtown portion. Mine was on a Friday night at 4:00 while they were setting up for the grand prix meaning several streets were blocked off. Chaos. And I was scared to death.

Donovan Davis announced on May 6th that he committed to the Cyclones!!!

On the other hand we consistently have strong regular seasons while climbing up the rankings and then underachieve in the post-season. Is one really better than the other?
