    Farewell, Sly Stone

If you haven’t see the documentary that Questlove did on Sly Stone, it’s on Hulu and worth the watch. Here’s the interview he did on it. https://www.npr.org/2025/05/26/nx-s1-5407415/questloves-sly-stone-documentary-confronts-the-burden-of-black-genius

    David Montgomery, ISU Alumnus

I was just at the Scouting National Annual Meeting in Orlando this past week and David was there. He’s the new brand ambassador for Scouting America. He gave a great speech. As a surprise, they brought in his scoutmaster and another leader mentioned in the talk up on stage at the end. Great moment.

North Shore - Duluth and Lake Superior

If you have family members who are a bit more adventurous there’s a day trip you can take out near Hungry Jack (on the Gunflint trail) and then go to Duncan Lake. The portage from Duncan to Rose has an amazing waterfall and beautiful views. It’s a way to go to the BWCA with a day trip form you...

North Shore - Duluth and Lake Superior

I would advise Rustic Inn over Betty's Pies. Both are good though. Big fan of Devil's Kettle, and if you are going that far North, visit the Angry Trout in Grand Marais. Great food. Also worth stopping at the Coho Cafe in Tofte. Really good breakfast and sandwiches. If you are into Sauna, I...

Friday OT - There’s Nerds Over There!

From a game I played a lot as a kid, probably Metroid II on Game Boy. I replayed that game so many times that I was able to track down all the missiles, energy tanks, etc. I wasn't allowed to have an NES or SNES, so I didn't get to play those games unless I was at a friend's house or after I...

    Friday OT - Granola

Spouse and I are big on plastic minimization in the house. Reusable bags, order cleaning chemicals via compostable packaging (Blueland), etc. We have solar and an electric car. Do out best to try to commute together to work. She's a vegetarian, and most of the meat in the house is from the...

    Apostle Islands/Bayfield WI

Not sure if you are willing to make a trip a little further up the North Shore, but there was some solid mountain biking up near Tofte and Grand Marais. https://www.fs.usda.gov/r09/superior/recreation/opportunities/biking https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd804366.pdf I worked...
