    HOA’s and their nonsense

I have two places with HOAs. My primary residence has an HOA that charges about $200 a year for mowing common green spaces etc. I’ve actually had more trouble with them than my other place (more on that in a second). A few years ago I took part in a state program to remove grass and xeriscape...

    Roku TV tiers

I have a bottom of the line Roku tv that I bought about 4 years ago for really cheap. It works fine still today. It’s not my main tv but I don’t notice it being slow. It’s TCL, and I’ve found it to be a good value for the price.

Missoula is quite nice as well.

Official CF traveling for work thread

I’ve been coming to LA one week per month this year, since that’s where my company is based. I wouldn’t want to come more, but it gives a good balance of working in the office vs from home.

When do you think you will buy a 100% pure electric vehicle?

I just drove a Chinese car for 10 days in Costa Rica. A Geely Starray. I just looked and it’s about $20k starting. A car of that level seems like it would be 2x the cost here. It had its quirks but for that price and that nice I’d get one tomorrow if I could.

    Restaurant tipping

Culver’s has expanded to more than just midwestern states for which I’m grateful. While they don’t accept tips, my tip is that I usually just get a kids meal. It’s the right size burger, drink, and scoop of frozen custard at the end.

    Restaurant tipping

Actually, funny you mention tipping the dude changing oil. We had a place open up near us where you wait in your car while they change the oil. Last time I went there, after paying the $80, plus a $5 “shop fee”, the kid asked if I wanted to leave a tip. Telling me “100% goes directly to the...

    Restaurant tipping

A few thoughts. I’ve been in Costa Rica the last 8 days. Every place I’ve been to accepts cards and there has been no tip prompt except one place called the puddlefish brewery, which in name and menu clearly caters towards Americans. One other place that was a bit more upscale, and run by an...

The Last of Us HBO series

I mean if somehow the Earth’s rotation reversed so warm water from the tropics flowed north to Seattle instead of cold water flowing south, then sure. It probably says more about me, that I get hung up on the weather, rather than all the other implausibilities.

The Last of Us HBO series

Here’s the biggest issue for me. All the lightning and thunder in Seattle. It rains a lot in the winter (summer not so much), but lightning there is very rare. I can suspend my disbelief for fungus mind-controlled zombies, or improbable last-minute rescues. But that weather is just a bridge...

BYU QB accused of sexual assault

I’ve always been told to use words in a sentence. So as example: “The preponderance of evidence shows that the Hawkeyes have generally failed to produce winning teams in recent years.”

Dang. That means she was just pretending when she didn’t know who he was. Down the rabbit hole we go…

BYU QB accused of sexual assault

I will ask. Ryan Smith and I are pretty tight. He said “good to see you” when my wife won tickets to a Jazz game and we got participate in the “high five” tunnel before a game earlier this year.

BYU QB accused of sexual assault

I think the chances he plays this year are pretty slim.

    A/V setup

I have a couple Vizio kits which broadcast the rear surround wirelessly to a subwoofer and two satellites. The front is a soundbar mounted under the TV. Not sure if audio purists would approve but it works fine for watching streaming content.
