USC/UCLA to the Big Ten in 24?

If true, very interesting near future. I still want the B12 commissioner to be ultra aggressive.

Did I read this right? NBC pays out $15mil for football media rights (last updated in 2016)? If true, now I 100% switch and ask why are they still an independent? Must have a pretty good payout for the teams they play.

USC/UCLA to the Big Ten in 24?

Ok. I'll stand corrected, but how much of Iowa's expenses were extensions of Covid fallout?

USC/UCLA to the Big Ten in 24?

Wonder if 'donations' are counted in that. Also, wonder what the 'state' contribution to funding for ISU's facilities are since, of course, ND doesn't have. Also, wonder what other revenue streams ND has besides 'media'. All those considerations aside, the question still remains: why even...

USC/UCLA to the Big Ten in 24?

Oops. Ok. What's your answer on what they're spending all of that on? Something funny there. Don't you agree? Also, with that type of income, no way they 'even' the playing field by joining the B1G. Or, yes, any conference for that matter. Unless, they're forced to by the new 'order' to...

USC/UCLA to the Big Ten in 24?

I just looked up ND's athletics numbers for last year. They made $20k on $169k income. That's a ton of income/expenditures. What on God's earth in their AD is costing that much? Something a bit funny with those numbers, but since their private I wouldn't be surprised if it's funny money.

Respectively disagree. The landscape is changing. The ability to control their destiny lies within a conference. And the ability to control their current agenda is in the weakest of the 3. It's still a play I'd make.

USC/UCLA to the Big Ten in 24?

First, thanks for backing up your 'disagree'. Borrowing in general will continue to get more difficult (inflation and interest rates). As highly leveraged as ESPN still is in cable, they're now approaching financial woes. Fox having spread agreements with the B12, but now playing the power...

USC/UCLA to the Big Ten in 24?

One argument I've seen only a few comments on is: who wants to be the new big fish in a 'surviving' pond? If I were Notre Dame, it has the power to control revenue. Committing to the B12 would be a better move than the B1G as far as prestige. Of course the trade off is another Texas sized...

USC/UCLA to the Big Ten in 24?

No offense, but all this talk about adding the ones we want is babble unless in the back channels the media sponsorship is singing good future numbers. The options will follow the money. Fox and ESPN IMO are close to being spread too thin. Borrowing is getting too expensive. Unless...

USC/UCLA to the Big Ten in 24?

Of course they'll make it work. BUT, the fact remains: travel budgets and student demands suffer. They may not eat through all of it, but non-revenue sports will cost a lot more.

    Prediction for USC/UCLA postmortem.

Played right, better than 'left overs'.

USC/UCLA to the Big Ten in 24?

For what it's worth here's a quote from a source which had decades inside the P12 office... "Longest conference road trip for LA schools was to Seattle, Pullman and Boulder. Each at 1,100 miles. Shortest trip in the Big Ten will be to Lincoln at 1,500 miles. Those schools will eat up that 100...

    Prediction for USC/UCLA postmortem.

Agree. However, the next contract is the biggie. If the B12 makes a power play and acquires some more major markets, the next contract would very likely be an Apple/Amazon play. If that happens, who the hell cares about standard cable/TV feeds. Streaming is already done at every TV set with...
