Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

What are you talking about? Do you think Jacksonville gets the same viewership as the cowboys? Do the Browns get the same viewership as the 49ers? Or how about the Titans getting the same viewership as the Packers?

The NFL has a large viewership discrepancy between the teams even within the same conference. Just like in college
You weren't talking about individual teams. You were talking about how the NFL has 2 conferences and how similar the NCAA's 4 conferences (aside from having 2 more than the NFL) operate. Of course the ratings/viewership of individual teams within those conferences vary. But we're talking about the NFC and AFC. They both have bluebloods, they both have mega-brands that draw massive viewership/ratings/popularity. That's not anything like the 4 college conferences.

And even within the conferences the viewership varies from team to team. Just like in college.

NFL will have its "bluebloods" such as the Cowboys, Packers, Patriots, Eagles, etc. College will have its "bluebloods" such as Ohio State, Alabama, Notre Dame, etc.

They seem quite similar.....

Yeah but the difference is that the NFC and AFC (again, your example) both have those bluebloods, but in the NCAA only two of the four conferences have them.

And yet they are still considered power conferences. I don't see what you are getting at. The overall concept doesn't change. The power conferences are just like the NFL. And there are teams in the Big 12 and ACC that draw larger viewership than many/most teams from the Big 10/SEC.

You're essentially saying that in the same way the NFC and AFC (the conferences) are basically equal in terms of popularity, blueblood teams, organization brands, viewership... the Big 12 and ACC are basically equal to the B1G and SEC.

That's what I'm getting at.

Well, they were until the big 10 and SEC got greedy.

Would you feel different if the blue bloods all merged and formed their own super conference, leaving Iowa out? Because I see this going down one of two roads: One super conference or the P4 merge for college football to form a 72 or so team league.

So, they're not. That's all I'm saying. So how would it be fair to treat those conferences the same with equal revenue sharing?

And while I don't think a super conference with only the biggest and best brands will ever happen, yes I'm fully aware that Iowa would be left out and even as-is, Iowa is a scrub program compared to Michigan, tOSU, USC, PSU, etc. that just has the benefit of riding their coattails when it comes to conference revenue.

I don't read his posts as "hopes" resulting in feelings (the point about if Iowa is left out)...I think he is gaming it out as to what he thinks will happen...just as you are. For the record...I see the blueboods eventually breaking away from the NCAA to form their own NFL-like league that doesn't include all current B1G and SEC schools...but I don't think that will happen within a 10 year period.

Then the Big 10/SEC should not use equal revenue sharing within their conference members. It’s seems hypocritical

I've already said it's not fair and if I were a fan of a blueblood I wouldn't be thrilled with it.

The B1G/SEC are going to do what they feel is in the best interest of the health of their conference. So far that's been equal revenue sharing among its members. Sharing revenues equally with other conferences isn't exactly in their best interest.

Yep. They don’t care about the college football product as a whole. 100% agree.

Greed will only take someone so far before it comes crashing down

Memphis, literally, cannot buy a chance to get into a better Conference. They tried with the Big12, ACC, and now PAC. With all the money they have backing them, it is curious on why.

I think they looked at the numbers and it wasn't much stronger of a position than current situation, with added travel. Also the buyout support the new Pac was willing to front was weak, from Memphis' perspective.

I've seen Memphis is possibly still looking to join the new Pac for FB only and the BigEAST for all other sports.
