I doubt they have all that much interest in basketball and it's probably nothing compared to the types of money they've thrown around for football players.

And no offense to Jefferson because he's very talented but it's not like it's Cooper Flagg making the move.
They Care.

They don't care as much as football, but they care.

They have been to 4 Final Fours and had some of the best players in the history of the game: Bob Pettit, Pete Maravich, Shaquille O'Neil, etc.

They Care.

Ok, but for $3mil. They'd probably lose their s*** about a 10 and 8 guy

I disagree. Long shot to make the NBA which is why if he does truly have a huge offer I can’t blame him for taking it, even though it would absolutely suck.
yeah he's not an nba guy, that's why he has to take it.

I'm was never suggesting it was "left vs right" politics but it's politics. We live in a capitalistic society. And one that supports astronomically fewer regulations and rules than say 40-50 years ago
Truth. Look up the dictionary definition of capitalism and then read your old high school econ textbook. The end result is that a few people are gonna end up with a lotta the stuff…that’s not political, it’s literally the design of the system.

Need to draw up binding contracts with these players going forward. Break the contract, get sued. Simple as that. This is now professional sports and we can't afford to try to find a replacement player this late in portal season.
Isn’t this supposed to be a dead period or something or does that not mean anything? I am so confused :)

If true let’s just play all the freshman and hope they stick around 3-4 years. Used to look forward to seeing if our freshman had game

Generally if they have good success and stay healthy they'll be gone.

Just like how basketball is the easiest to rebuild in, we're very quickly seeing the 'farm system' effect take place in the non SEC/B1G schools.

maybe a bench player will take 200k now? I don't know much about these numbers. This is all so depressing and completely slowly chips away at people's enthusiasm for college basketball.
Personally anyone not getting more than 10 minutes a game, should be damn happy with their scholarship and whatever perks athletes get.
I know that isn't the way it is but that's my opinion.

Agree. No reason to recruit high school kids. They either won't play as a freshman and transfer or leave after one year if they play well.

The system is put in place through political actions though. Almost everything you do has something to do with politics. Now as far as the NIL itself, how do you regulate it given the SCOTUS decision?

I do think, though, that you have a better shot at retaining someone that you recruited from high school. It's not a sure thing, but I think the chances are better.

I know that football is different in a lot of ways. But the reason we've been successful with football is that we've retained the young talent.

We better find new ways to gather more NIL money then...short of robbing banks.

It's not the courts fault. It's the powers that be who profit from this chaotic system. The power schools who are already the richest are currently benefitting from the lack of rules. It's the NCAA (i.e. power school ADs) who decided to do nothing and let the suits take over everything, because they profit from it.

I just peed, what politics were involved?
Are we not here because the SCOTUS decision? I don't care if it was 9-0. I never said it was a partisan political decision but it's politics. Sorry that it pisses off the people who are sick and tired of "everything" being about politics.
