Ugly Holiday Decorations

A house in my neighborhood has about 4 different shades of blue lights randomly displayed on their house, hung in an erratic fashion. I don't know their situation so I try not to just their festiveness, but it makes me turn my head for the wrong reason every time I go past it.

I'm running on like 8 years straight now for coming up with something every night in December. My youngest daughter is only 3, so I've got some years to go too.

Go to Pinterest, they've got a lot of lists of good ideas.

Getting a little older and worried about falling off a ladder, we had the Trimlight people come out to give us a quote on their permanent lighting system for the house. Waiting till spring to get the off season discount, their system would be $4200 for only the front, and right at $9000 for the entire house. Now it would be great to have flashing lights for all the holidays, but for that price I can go up and down a ladder quite a few times.

Elf on shelf can die now. It's 15 minutes of fame was up 20 years ago.

As someone who's elf is getting ready to 'die', disagree. I'm gonna miss it - especially back when the kids were in the 3-5 year range when they'd really get excited to find it every morning. Only so many years where things like that matter, don't wish them gone too quick.

Not if you fall and go to the hospital but that's the storied American lottery we all know and love.

I guess if that happens, then I could afford to get their lights if the settlement is big enough. Have to say their price blew me away, I figured at most maybe half that price, I mean its stringing up some LED lights to the eve, and running the wires back to the garage. Maybe have to look over on Amazon and do the "do it yourself version", this spring.

Most of it is likely the brain of the thing running the patterns and colors. Not really sure about the price of the lights themselves but I can't imagine they're cheap if they're permanent. Also as a contractor anything that requires you to work above 10 foot off the ground is expensive liability insurance.

According to the quote, the "control box" is around $350, it would be in the garage, it is not included in the price of the lights, which just for the front would have been $4200 to run along the eves of the house. Wife wanted a quote for the back, thinking more people could see it from the side street and that would was another $2000, not sure if they are not all wired together if we would need another control box back there or not.

Just crazy prices for permanent lights.

If I’m really stumped that’s where I end up but I’ve been pretty good at keeping things fresh I think. My youngest two are 3 and 5 so it’s the first thing they do every morning. Here are a couple more recent ones. And then I’ve got some premade props I keep that I made like a wooden airplane that come the night before Santa and such.

As far as ugly - sometimes you see folks just randomly throw some lights on a bunch of smaller trees and bushes. There's no pyramid shape to it, just like a dozen lights strewn around a dozen bushes, and it just looks accidental.

Get the older kids to do things. That is the only thing that kept it going in our house. They actually enjoyed it!
