I hope I'm wrong on this one, but I think we get beat badly Saturday.
I hope we get 125 with either kysen or Meza or else it could ugly fast.
Many hawk fans are very high on Peterson.
125 Meza/Kysen over Peterson 3-0
133 Ayala over Frost 3-3 Ayala will be in on Frost's legs over and over.
141 tossup Frost/Redding over Block 6-3
149 tossup Parco over Ech 6-6
157 hopefully Panairo can go either way Teemer wins 6-9 could be major/tech with no Panairo
165 Caliendo by major over Euton 6-13
174 Brands over Riggins 6-16
184 Arnold over Bochman 6-19
197 Buchanon over Carroll 6-22
285 Younger over Keuter 9-22
Hope Younger has his lungs in his first match. Keuter is gonna be a good test.
Gotta finish fast and get out from bottom. Keuter will try to ride him and wear him out.

I hope you’re right on Ayala. He’s no gas tank Drake right now.

I think the matches in this dual will be much closer than the team score.

125 - Iowa always finds a 125 that surprises. I think Petersen ends up being pretty good this year. Think it’s a bad spot for KT if he goes, and CHA is a bad spot for a true freshman if Meza goes. 0-3 Iowa

133 - I agree with the poster above. Ayala will be all over Frosts legs and seems like it will be a slow start to the year for Evan as he gets dialed in. 0-6 Iowa

141 - I think we see Redding here and he is going to get this one done. 3-6 Iowa

149 - Ech is better on his feet, Parco with the advantage on the mat. Parco experience is the difference here. 3-9 Iowa.

157 - We’re either getting a hobbled Paniro, or a true freshman here who isn’t ready for this spot. Not great either way. Dec loss if Paniro, tech if K Naak. I’ll split the difference. 3-13 Iowa.

165 - Euton is tough, but I think Caliendo is the clear #2 in the weight class. Tough match up for any of our 165 options 3-17 Iowa

174 - Think Dresser throws MJ out there. Two years ago that didn’t go over well, though MJ clearly is much better than he was back then. Still think Brands is a bad match up for him as he won’t get into funk situations. Think he wins by Dec over MJ or Riggins. 3-20 Iowa.

184 - Arnold crashed the party for us last year. I think Bockman matches up better with Arnold than most guys at 184 will. Arnold is short, squatty, tough to score on and is explosive. Think Bockman is similar (not quite as explosive) but is savvy. Bockman pulls off the upset 6-20.

197 - Carroll will look good early, then I think the flood gates will open in the second and third. Think it’s a much closer match in March, but Buchanan is a massive step up from Stanford/Navy early season for a young guy to handle. 6-24.

285 - Iowa fans will be all over Yonger in this one and I do believe Keuter will try to gas him on the mat. Still think Yonger has enough on his feet to get it done. Hope his tank holds up.

Iowa wins 24-9.

I’d rather be pleasantly surprised by the Clones than disappointed. This year doesn’t look very bright

Carroll's gas tank looked much improved against Navy, but not top-notch yet.
Here's hoping it keeps getting better from week to week.
I'm not expecting a Carroll win, but he has that blue-chip aura where I won't be surprised if he finds a way to win.

I'm excited to see all of the matches. If we can win a couple of toss-ups and/or manage an upset, things will get interesting in a hurry.

Just a FYI, this isn't the instate rivals forum so trolling isn't very wise.

Sorry, haven't been following the team too closely early this season. I keep seeing people list Euton as the projected starter at 165 pounds vs. Iowa. Isn't Gaitan the best option? I know Euton started the last couple duals, but Gaitan was round of 12 last season up a weight and just dominated a returning NCAA qualifier. Why are people listing Euton? Is Gaitan battling an injury or something? Or was there a wrestle-off (which I don't put much stock in)?

Euton won the wrestle off. Euton/Gaitan is better than Gaitan/riggins

Thanks for the info on the wrestle-off. Thought that might be the case. I'll respectfully disagree with you on what is better. I believe the best option is Gaitan at 165 and Riggins at 174. But Dresser is a hell of a coach so he will do what makes the most sense.

You’re thinking Gaitan at 165 is worth more than Euton at 165 plus Gaitan at 174? I assume you’re just thinking he scores better at 165 this year?

Not disagreeing with you, just curious if that’s your thought.

I don't think Euton is worth many points at 165. Solid kid but I see Gaitan as a potential AA at 165. If Gaitan goes 174, which is not his preference, he could still do well. I'm still not expecting much difference in national points between Euton at 165 or Riggins at 174 ... so start Gaitan at his preferred weight class (165) regardless of what happened in a wrestle-off. But I trust Dresser to make the right decision.

A pin by MJ at NCAAs is likely to match all of Euton’s NCAA points.

I think it’s a little early on euton to be saying this. Euton beating gaitan at 165 is not something to sneer at. Seems very clear to me that getting euton and gaitan in the lineup is our best option for the moment.

They love Euton. Riggins has had a tough go so far but also has gone against two strong opponents. He won the Grand View Open but Tate was probably his only decent competition. It’ll be interesting to see what they do at those two weights moving forward.
