Football Attendance Against Cincinnati

I noticed there weren't as many families with kids and older people. Those demographics are probably less likely to attend with colder weather and a late kickoff. It's many factors though since Cincy isn't an attractive opponent and we lost two in a row.

JFC that was almost 30 years ago...

You guys aren’t getting it. Big 8 was a true power conference in par with the BIG and SEC. Regional teams, classic rivalries. Then when the Big 12 formed we went below those two conferences and there was Baylor and TCU and TT and all the fluff. Then when we added Cinct, UCF, etc the Big 12 went down another level. Now that OU and Texas are gone and we traded for Arizona schools and Utah it’s gone down another level. The league is boring and devoid of rivalries for us. They won’t even let us play KSU every year. The only reason this league is more fun is because we should expect to be at the top every year.

The weather was fine. It's the time of the game and the opponent.

I grew up in the Big 8 days and no the conference absolutely did NOT take a step back when the Big 12 was formed. The league is fun because there is a sh!t ton of parity. No we don't have a super elite team but we are also talking about a 1 year sample size. Rotter's gonna rot though....

If we could have kept the original B12 teams, we would be equal to the B10 if not better. Keeping UT, OU, aTm and Nebraska would have meant a lot perception wise to the talking heads, without those schools there is no one to fill the void they left in the minds of the people that make the decisions.

On the field maybe, but not in perception.

You could always sit in the front row-- Jamie took that away.

You could sit in a god damn hot tub.

We’re corporate now, and that’s boring to me. We just do everything the same as everyone else so there’s no differentiators. We’re just another “downtown restaurants” guy. Most People just want to be Iowa and make a bowl game every year because as you can see everything is about the past.

Wanted to start a discussion on this after listening to Williams and Blum. Wondered what other peoples thoughts were.

I think there are a multitude of issues going on here.

  • High cost of tickets this year.
Ticket prices have remained really high this year. I think there is a point where people have just spent their budget on tickets already. This game ticket prices did end up going down but how many had already decided not to go based on high prices for previous games.
  • Weather conditions
It was quite cold and kind of a gross day. Yeah it is November in Iowa but it still hurts attendance.
  • Two game losing streak
I think the two game losing streak and mounting injuries took a lot of wind out of our sails.

I think that regardless of views there are a lot of people with bad attitudes for society as a whole right now. How many people are just frustrated with everything right now.

What do people think the reason for low attendance was.
It's not that complicated. We have a cap on the number of ISU fans who are willing to go to a game. It takes higher stakes, a good game time, and comfortable weather for us to sell out a game that doesn't involve Iowa or UNI.

The weather was honestly great for a November game.....it maybe got down to the mid to low 40s during the game but that's not out of the ordinary, especially when the game was at night.

The two losses definitely took the wind out of the sails although the student section was packed pretty full at the start of the game. I noticed people started clearing out about midway through the 2nd quarter, and it's not because they were going out to tailgate and come back in....they just left the game altogether.

I stayed in my seat till the very end but I think the first half was a bit of a snoozer and people didn't want to be in the cold anymore (it really wasn't that cold if you were dressed for the occasion).
I can tell you why people were leaving in the 2nd quarter or at halftime and not coming back.. but nobody would like it and wouldn’t want to admit it’s the truth.

Ticket prices? They were so cheap I almost got in my car Friday night and drove from Colorado.

I realize the situations are different, but at CU you can't get in the building for less than $200, and they're packing it.
