Fennelly knows what he has in Joens. It's probably wise to get the newcomers more court time with the established starters/rotation given Hare's ceiling. It's still extremely early in the season. Hare clearly has Big 12 offensive skills that could raise the ceiling of the team while Joens provides a high floor if Hare can't find her role. I love Joens for what you said - she makes so many winning plays on loose balls and rebounds. When it comes to Big 12 play, we might see her more.JMHO - Kelsey isn't getting any love from CBF. She was last of the healthy players to enter the game and played the second fewest minutes. Her direct competition is Kenzie Hare.
Hare - 22 Minutes - 8 Points (3-8, 2-6, 0-1), 3 Rebounds & 2 Assists
Joens - 11 Minutes - 3 Points (1-3, 1-2, 0-0), 3 Rebounds & 1 Assist.
My observation(s): Hare was a defensive liability today while Joens did little things which don't show up in the box score, such as contesting rebounds which the other team knocks out for ISU to retain possession, etc.
Again, I'm biased because I know the youngster, but I think Kelsey Joens has outplayed Kenzie Hare thru three games, yet she got even less minutes than Lily Hansford today. I understand they're trying to get LH untracked, but c'mon - she looks like a deer in headlights out there.
Am I alone in being of the opinion Kelsey is deserving of more minutes than Hare, Tanke & Hansford?
I agree with the Addy Brown/Bridget C comparison, except that BC tends to keep her emotions hidden.Could the analyst stop referring to Southern as the "Jag-wires"?!
I thought that the Sisters handled the run that SU made in the 2nd and the pressing defense thrown their way.
A. Brown is incredible. She reminds of Bridget in a sense of doing so many things well. And A. Jackson is the definition of 3-and-D.
I love her attitude and competitive spirit on the court. She wears her emotions on her sleeve, and adds some toughness that hasn't exactly been the calling card of Fennellys program.Addy is going to be great (already is pretty great), super-talented and versatile and she's a scrapper!
She's 0-9 for the season. I thought she'd be a big impact player. She doesn't square up when she shoots but presumably, she shot the same way last year and hit 45% from 3.Hansford really needs to find her shot or her PT is going to be limited. She hasn’t hit wide open shots
I know one is a Junior at Iowa State. Are the announcers students? They looked really young. They’re doing a good job.
The snooty British say Jag-u-ahs. Red-blooded Americans say Jag-wire.As a driver of Jag-u-ahs, drives me nuts to hear Jag-wire. Phillistines.
Are they part of the new sports journalism major?I know one is a Junior at Iowa State.
I think he is. Nice gig as a Student. Are they part of the new sports journalism major?
They actually did a really good job IMO.I think he is. Nice gig as a Student.
Him and his dad have sat behind us for football and basketball games for about 15 years. Seen him grow up. He knows his stuff. I heard a little bit and they sounded great. They actually did a really good job IMO.
I fast forward through the timeouts on the recording. Game is much faster that way.The worst part of the broadcast (watched the replay) is an ESPN issue…lots of dead air time.
Not officially, although she did make a three and a few free throws in the exhibition.Has Hansford made a basket yet? I was thinking about that after the game finished.
