MLB: ***2026 Minnesota Twins***

Not a done deal, but DH Park’s opinion. I think he’s a really good Twins beat writer and fairly plugged in.
Between him and Hayes, it’s a good crew. I’m halfway through the gleeman and the geek Patreon preview pod.

At least it feels like 84 years …

When you have to go back to Johan Santana, Jacque Jones, Shannon Stewart, and Michael Cuddyer to remember your last playoff win, that’s too long.

(I had a Twins dynasty on MVP 05 on the Xbox back in the day, and I was able to take basically that team and eventually win a couple of World Series. It helped that I traded for Felix Hernandez and some other game-generated dudes that paid off big time.)

The last time they won a playoff game was before Mauer was on the full time roster (I believe he was a late season call-up that year, but didn't make the post season roster). Meaning Mauer finished his career with a playoff win percentage of 0.00%.

I either want the Twins to win the world series or for them to lose the first two games and get the streak to 20. As Dan Cole on KFAN says... be historically good or biblically bad

Twins have the roster makeup to make some noise if the starting pitching remains strong.

My prediction is they break the streak but either lose 2 out of 3 to Toronto or get swept in the ALDS.

GO TWINS!

Anyone else emotionally hedge a bet today on Toronto?

I want to believe… badly.
I do too, but I still don't trust their bats. I think they at least win a game to break the streak. If Polanco is playing 3rd and Edwuard is playing 2nd, that's a really bad defense.

Rosters are set at 10am today.

They better not go with 12 pitchers. No reason for more than 11. You go Lopez, Gray, Ryan, Maeda, Duran, Pagan, Thielbar,, Jax,, Stewart, Varland, Paddack. The Jays only have 1 hitter that you need a LHP specialist for and that is Brandon Belt. He crushes righties and sucks against lefties. Belt is also 1 for 10 with 4 K's against Paddack, so you can use him to.

That gets you 14 position players. Vasquez, Jeffers, Kiriloff, Julien, Polanco, Correa, Lewis, Solano, Castro, Farmer, Wallner, Taylor, Kepler and I think Stevenson.

I think Buxton gets left off unless he shows he could be a valuable pinch runner like Stevenson. My heart says Buxton could be a fantastic pinch hitter and salvage his miserable season in the playoffs, but I bet another week of rest would be good for him.

I think today's lineup is.
Julien 2B
Lewis DH
Polanco 3B
Kepler RF
Correa SS
Wallner LF
Jeffers C
Kiriloff 1B
Castro CF

Jeffers will catch today. Lopez has far better success with Jeffers than Vasquez this year, plus Jeffers has 4 K's in 5 ABs against Berrios (Game 2's starter). Vasquez is far better defensively, but has 12Ks in 25 AB against Gausman (Game 1 starter).

For me the key will be the health of Polanco, Correa and Lewis. I like the pitching and the rest of the offense. If everyone is healthy they can make run. I love Buxton but I hope he doesn’t make the roster. There is a reason the offense hit better in the second half by removing him and Gallo. Buxton just isn’t right this year. If he wasn’t healthy enough to play in Colorado then I don’t see how you can play him here.

If Past is Prologue, this will mean absolutely nothing. Remember when they broke the season HR record and then couldn't hit the damn ball in the post-season? Good times.
I totally agree.

I was a junior in high school the last time the Twins won a playoff series and a freshman in college the last time they won a playoff game.

My 20-year high school reunion is next year.

Obviously I would love the Twins to run the table, but just start by getting a playoff win.

1991 started with Toronto and ended with Atlanta. Maybe the same will happen this year.

This is kind of where I am at. Maybe a win today and the emotion of the moment creates a weird fog on the remaining games, and they lose 2-1.
