Kielsmeier is one of the nicest guys in the world. IF Bill retired in the next few years, he is the only call you make.
Chris is a good guy. And clearly he's done just fine as a coach. I'd be OK with him coming back to ISU.

I feel like I would have excelled at more dribbling because my four brothers sometimes had to resort to asking me to play in their games on the blacktop at school, my sister would never do it. I think defending would be my real downfall. And rebounding. At least unlike some schools we played, we didn’t have dorky skirts for uniforms. We did have a freshman coach who would get mad over something stupid and make us run up and down bleachers, which always scared me. One of my friends was good at strategically “losing” a contact to stop that madness. You gotta dribble more than twice you know.![]()
People also stay connected unless there are problems. Can we stop with possible coaches. A coaching change is not going to happen. New world we live in. People transfer for a change of scenery. People transfer for NIL. People transfer because of playing time.
I was totally in agreement with you - but now I wonder a little. I see Lexi is rated #2 of all the portal players. Maybe she is tired of hearing v C lark gets $1M+NIL had literally nothing to do with them transferring.
The three that left after completing their four years are no different then grad-transfers prior to the new transfer rules. They completed their degrees and want to potentially play somewhere else and continue their education. So I am not really seeing how that is a negative to the program. So if my math is correct I think that makes 11 transfers in 3 years.
In terms of recruit retention:
2022-2023 class was Dawkins, who I'd be surprised if she's here all 4 years but who knows.
2021-2022 class was Fritz and Maggie Vick, both gone
2020-2021 class was Feuerbach, Ryan, Zingaro, Joens, Donarski, 3 out of 5 gone.
2019-2020 class was MEM and Gabby McBride. McBride left, MEM played 4 years but left still having eligibility.
2018-2019 class was Maddie Fredrick, Ashley Joens and Morgan Kane. All 3 completed their 4 years, but 2 left still having eligibility.
So out of 12 recruits over the last 4 years, 3 remain actively playing, 4 completed their 4 years, but only 1 (Joens) exhausted all of her eligibility without transferring. I think you can safely say Ryan will be added to that list and who knows on Zingaro and Dawkins. So we could wind up with 2-4 of 13 of our high school recruits over the last 4 years having not transferred.
As a long time season ticket holder and supporter, I'd like to think this. However, we've not lost 1 or 2, we've lost 5, 2 of which were starters and foundation pieces. This is not the "Iowa State Way."The three that left after completing their four years are no different then grad-transfers prior to the new transfer rules. For anyone leaving the program as an undergrad, this is just the world we live in. Fans think there has to be program problem when people are transferring away, but I would guess without doing a lot of research that most every high-major program, both men's and women's, have a least one or two players transfer out each year.
Just because a fan thinks that player will be a great piece to their team's success going forward doesn't mean that player has to stay at that program.

Feuerbach's decision to leave was pretty well documented. She came to Iowa State because it was a good program and she grew up in an Iowa State household. But decided after being here that she might want to go someplace else. Not that much different then someone always wanting to visit, say New York City because they hear how great it was, and then after visiting deciding it wasn't for them so they won't visit again. It's not as troubling as Feuerbach, Donarski or Fritz leaving, but they still have remaining eligibility and are choosing to play elsewhere. Definitely more tolerable, but when taking within the context of what's going on I'd consider it somewhat troubling.
Until we hear both players say NIL had nothing to do with it, it only makes sense to wonder how much it may have played at part. Let’s wait to see where they end up.I was totally in agreement with you - but now I wonder a little. I see Lexi is rated #2 of all the portal players. Maybe she is tired of hearing v C lark gets $1M+
Not shocked in the least about this one. She was done it was obvious in every interview. The only thing that surprises me is that she was not the first one out the door.
When they talked to her about going home to Tenn she could not have looked more far away and get me out of this interview because Im not going to be here much longer anyway. I knew from that moment it was a matter time before we heard she is out. Lexi total surprise-? In the post game interviews I guess I never noticed anything.

We don't know anything about Donarski and Fritz (at least publicly), but they can both have reasons to leave that have to do with not feeling that this was the best place for them without it meaning that Iowa State has a systemic problem that can only be solved by firing everyone and starting over.
Quick question - o/u on how many of the incoming recruits would ask out of their LOI if the most/all of staff was gone?
If these women were ONLY basketball players then that argument might hold significance. It's not as troubling as Feuerbach, Donarski or Fritz leaving, but they still have remaining eligibility and are choosing to play elsewhere. Definitely more tolerable, but when taking within the context of what's going on I'd consider it somewhat troubling.
One thing that keeps crossing my mind is poaching. Are other schools or student-athletes from other programs reaching out to players/friends/former teammates?
The Big 12 didn’t exactly look real tough in the NCAA tournament either. Even more reason Bill massively underachieved this year. The league was bad.
