The thing that creeped me out the most about going into the adjacent fields here was that power line went to...something?

View attachment 105620
I watch some youtube channels where people explore old abandoned houses. Crazy and creepy seeing some that look like the people just walked out 40 years ago and left everything. Sometimes still dishes on the table, clothes in the closet, dust on everything, but the calendars etc all are from 40+ years ago.

I will say, that power line could be decades old, and not actually live anymore. But does give it a eerie look.

There was one video recently I saw where an old abandoned house a guy went in and could see someone had cleaned certain rooms, shoving all the debris etc in random rooms and closing the doors, there was a modern briefcase and paperwork left and a few random rooms set up like they were being used, or more like they were being used for a movie. And it was obviously the left behind furniture from the home being used. The guy was totally creeped out, because other than that the place was obviously totally abandoned and had been for a long time. Even had broken windows. It was a crazy video.

edit: found the video:

Rural U.S.A.
Lotta truth here.

In the last 5 years or so, I've driven off the beaten path in nearby states. I saw far worse rural decline in places like Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico than I have anywhere in Iowa.

Where I've been in the Dakotas has been pretty decent, as well as Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Those rural areas are more akin to rural Iowa.

Rural California. Yikes.

Railroad workers got a lot of attention from Klan with many of them being Catholic or black.

One of my ancestors was tarred and feathered in southeast Iowa

Southern Iowa was settled by a lot of people from Virginia and Tennessee. Then there were the coal mines. Some of the main reasons why southern Iowa seems, well, a bit southern.

I didn't read all of the recent replies but anyone dumping on rural Iowa is high on the same supply they think everyone is on in our rural areas. If you legitimately think rural Iowa is as bad as I've read on these posts you need to get out and travel around the Midwest. Most of Ohio makes the shittiest parts of Iowa look like paradise. You don't have to drive too far into Missouri to see the stark differences in our rural towns. Come on guys.

The stats don’t lie. Iowa is old, white, and dying. Anyone currently in the state that has the ability is moving to DSM or the CR/IC corridor. No one is coming here from other states and young people are flocking to other states.
Sounds good to me. Won’t have to worry about those bastards going on my lawn anymore.

My southern roots are kind of East Coast. My mother grew up in Connecticut to a mother from Atlanta and a father from Tennessee. Lots of grits eaten at family dinners when I was young. And it was Grandad and not Grandpa.

Sorry I didn’t clarify between good illegals and bad illegals. Are they here to sell drugs or are they here the roof houses and do hog chores?

What about all of the bad white trash that's here to sell drugs, do they count or are they ok because they were born here? You couldn't sound like a bigger piece of trash.

I’m not sure why you want so badly to consider these guys as “Iowans”. All I’m asking is that if these guys are gang banging illegals why should we consider them Iowans. If they’re here to work and feed a family that’s fine but it wouldn’t appear that way after reading the article. Maybe I’m jumping to conclusions. Unfortunately there are trashy Iowans. Thank you for including me with them without knowing anything about me. Calling people names to win an argument shows a lack of intelligence. Take a cold shower and enjoy a beer while you’re in there. You can thank me later.

Man that is a cesspool, no thanks.
Not any more toxic than it is out here. The entire website is toxic.

But that’s not really my point. My point is that CW and the other owners have decided that politics should be confined to the cave. Fine. But that means all politics. Some posters apparently feel like they can make political posts outside of the cave as long as those posts are conservative. And that’s ********

Who the hell cares where you were born, if you do good work you are great in my book. If more people took that opinion instead of being neanderthal fuckwads, a migrant worker might have more options for work other than a packing plant or hog barn.

Think it depends what side you are on. Being on neither, I see a lot from both sides. Then each side says the other does it way more but they forget what their side does.
