I will guarantee you that Isiah wouldn't change a thing. There's no way he'd trade those Piston years for the Dream Team.
It's not really like that. I mean, if he's asked about someone, he's candid but he didn't really piss on most people outside of Isiah. He'd be honest and put things into context at the time but he doesn't really go in on people.
I read his columns religiously as an NBA fanatic living in Chicago from '02 to '15...then when they started having him for TV and radio I realized why he was a writer.
Nobody knows NBA basketball more than that guy.
Inside Stuff on Saturday Mornings after cartoons or Saved By the Bell was marketing genius for the NBA. I also always got the magazine too so I'm sure it was very cheap to subscribe.
It was probably part of the reason I became a big NBA fan in the mid to late 80s and never really picked up other pro sports fandom until I was an adult.
Is anyone else a little worried about Jordan's health? The whites of his eyes are really yellow, which I've always associated with alcoholism/liver issues.
They've left quite a bit out in terms of little details that they probably think would diminish Jordan's status a little. The Portland game 6 game was already mentioned, they didn't mention that they traded Oden ******* Polynice for Pippen and that they had two top 10 picks that year. I don't know that they are negating what those guys were but they certainly leave out how good some of those guys were coming in. They also don't talk about how good Charles Oakley was.
Jerry Krause deserves all the negative he's getting, no doubt, but that guy deserves a **** ton of praise for the moves he made. That guy didn't miss.
Could have still had that without freezing MJ at his first all star game and not shaking hands. Stockton and Malone showed you could be scrappy/dirty players and still be loved by the rest of the league.
Not saying MJ is a nice guy but a personal vendetta against possibly the greatest competitor of all time is not without consequence.
Other than his early retirement reality had a Jordan slant for his last six seasons with the Bulls.
There really should be an asterisk next to Jordan’s “early retirement”. It’s not that hard to figure out that the reason why someone who was in the prime of such a dominant career had nothing to do with him being bored of the game.
A great article on the Athletic about the guy Jordan is playing quarters with. I guess he was his bodyguard, and they were friends for a long long time. Talks about his days being a badass Chicago cop.
I find this to be a compelling conspiracy theory. Most conspiracy theories are interesting but garage...the Jordan gambling/suspension theory makes a lot of sense. The commish would not be able to bury something like that today, but 25 years ago it was possible.
The "Jordan was forced into an 18-month suspension because of gambling" takes are tired and have no basis in facts. If it were true it would be the biggest conspiracy and corruption in sports history and MJ and Stern would be the biggest liars we have ever seen. It simply didn't happen.
You've all seen the doc by now, does playing for the Jerrys look like much fun in the 90s?
Has there ever been on bit of evidence that suggests a suspension? How many people would it have taken to cover up something like this? Why would they let him come back mid-season?
It is all foolishness. We all knew about MJ's gambling in the early 90s, this wasn't a secret. No one was being protected.
