I don't know. My brother texted me at 0530 this morning to tell me Jim Cantore was broadcasting on The Weather Channel from in front of Target Center. That guy is bad luck; bad weather seems to follow him. He is a regular Joe Btfsplk.
The "like" is for the nod to Joe Btfsplk. :)

Weather: just east of Ames, had rain at 5a, still warm. Ice crystals at 7a, temp dropping. Snow falling now, about a half inch so far.

Work woes: stories from all y'all are reinforcing my early retirement. I feel your pain, and hope that things are better today/tomorrow/whenever you go back to work!

Been baking cookies and the kitchen overlooks the highway. Couldn’t really see the precipitation well but thought it was ok as cars are zooming by at usual pace. Go to let dog out and can tell we are getting the ice/snow mix badly. Let him back in and his eyes are getting icy after three minutes out. Then hear a loud crash and car has hit the guard rail on the highway.

So called 911 and go grab my boots to run up the hill to the highway in the ice. By the time I got them on, the sheriff was already there, waves and says we’re all good, which is a relief since (1) the guy was ok even though his car wasn’t and (2) I now know it takes the sheriff about 3 minutes to get to our house on ice and (3) I am not sure I could have climbed the hill on ice since I almost wiped out on our back steps. Plus still had on pj bottoms lol.

Freshly baked cookies would have made their day, I bet.

Schools are all cancelled here in KC. It's probably for the best since it's been raining all night and the temp dropped 20 degrees in about two hours and is now below freezing. It looks like it's gonna change into a rain sleet mix and turn the homefront into a skating rink.

It's just hard for the Iowan in me to imagine school closures when there's not snow preventing you from opening your front door.

The vixen and I were talking about that last night. We both remembered getting up early in the morning and listening to the radio to hear if school was going to be cancelled. (And the inevitable party if it was.) Also - we never got out of school early if it was too hot. WTF??!!!??

I'd come crash my truck by your house if you brought fresh cookies out to me. :D

Y'all would've laughed outright at the "snow" days I had when growing up just across the lake from Seattle. If we had a half inch, schools shut down because a) lots of hills and b) lots of people with NO clue how to drive in snow.
After graduating, I went to Washington St, on the opposite end of the state. The weather in the Palouse hills is very similar to central Iowa. I spent 6 years in Pullman, and got accustomed to driving on snowy roads, but you could always tell the newbies from the "Coast" (basically anywhere west of the Cascades) because they would roar up to stop signs and expect to stop. Phenomenal numbers for fender benders in the early winter weather every year.

I think you're on to something. It looks like as soon as you posted this the weather got worse.

Yeah, our girls up in Anacortes and Bellingham laugh at the locals. A little bit of snow and the whole area is paralyzed. They just have no clue how to deal with it. I think Washington has been getting quite a bit more snow this winter than they are used to, as well.

Sounds like those may have not been cooked properly. Let me PM you an address that you can send them to so they are properly disposed of.

They may have turned out the best since I left them on the sheet and they continued to bake. I sent cookies with kids a month ago for after the basketball game on the bus and the coach asked me to do it for every road game lol. Boys say he really pounds down the snickerdoodles, but I also have chocolate chip and pineapple.

@carvers4math, @Cybirdy, @cowgirl836 & @cyrevkah:

Ever notice that any mention whatsoever of baking has these guys drooling and falling all over themselves? Like clockwork...cracks me up EVERY time. :D

I did not share any of the last batch of cinnamon rolls except maybe (5) total between the spouse and co-workers. I used them as one meal a day for a week and they were awesome! For whatever reason they raised a LOT better than the first time. I don't know if the yeast proofed better, or if it was due to adding the butter milk then the microwaved butter.

Pineapple?! Do explain the recipe and taste.

For wrestling and football, somebody is in charge making a light meal for after each game. For wrestling, we make breakfast for after weigh ins. Kids smile when they walk in and see me since it means it's my breakfast burritos. Always a couple kids who says it's their favorite part of the season afterwards. I actually bland them down since nobody wants an upset stomach while wrestling. I prefer my home ones.

That combination sounds interesting. I've made pancakes with chocolate and either strawberries, blueberries, or bananas, but I never thought to throw pineapple in the mix.
