Looks like Marvel is currently working on another Jessica Jones-esque female-led TV series right now with ABC. We have no clue who the lead character will be though as of right now.

Ms Marvel immediately comes to mind, although it might be difficult for her abilities to translate to TV.

Perhaps White Tiger?

The article hinted at Spider-Woman, but Silk or Spider-Gwen could work too if Marvel owns the rights to those characters.

Truthfully, its hard for me to tell. Sure, Ms Marvel would be fun, but with a likely big post-Wonder Woman push for female-led superhero movies, my guess is that the movie side is going to expand that list of candidates they want to save back for themselves. With that said, while Ms. Marvel might have once been on a potential TV list, I wouldn't be surprised if she gets pushed over to the movie side now, especially now that Spider-Man is in the mix. A youthful Ms. Marvel tag-teaming and bouncing off with Spider-Man could make for a ton of fun.

Finally got a chance to watch my new copy of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in UHD 4K at home (I've got a 65 inch Samsung SUHD HDR 4K TV). Wowsers, talk about spectacular. Can't wait for all the upcoming Marvel movies to be in the same format finally, as well as hoping that all the previous ones get re-released in the format (I know I'm a complete sucker who re-buys EVERYTHING). Now, don't get me wrong, I still love the experience of going to the theater on opening night, getting out of the house, and entering into that atmosphere. However, if we are just talking about the viewing and sound experience, my home theater now greatly exceeds what I can see at the theater. Therefore, while I'm at the theater, I actually look forward to the BETTER viewing experience I get at home when my discs arrive later on. Granted, I live in Cedar Rapids and we don't have IMAX or even anything outside of the standard digital movie theater, so I know I'm missing out on quite a few things theaters are doing right now to enhance the experience. Regardless, this is going to continue to be a big battle for theaters moving forward. Locally, I hope it pushes them to either build a new theater or upgrade the ones we already have.

First full pretty scathing review for The Inhumans. Really pretty disappointing. Anyone planning on checking it out still in IMAX? We don't even have an IMAX theater over here in Cedar Rapids, so it isn't even like I have a choice.

If Inhumans is as bad as people say it is, which is very likely, this kind of seals the deal for me in my mind for head of Marvel TV Jeff Loeb. I really think think he needs to go. Overall, there is just way too much inconsistency in the product of Marvel TV, not to mention that the overall trend has been mostly downward. Also, I hate it how all these misses really end up cheapening the MCU in my mind, and probably in other's minds as well. Sure, there is a ton of new upcoming series that seem intriguing to me and may even end up turning things around, but for me, its too late and Jeff Loeb needs to go.

So is Inhumans in the Agents of Shield/Agent Carter portion of the MCU, or is this it's own separate thing? I got all the way through Season 1 of Agent Carter and thought it was OK, but I have only seen a few S1 episodes of Agents of Shield and I'm not really a fan of the ABC-style production values. I much prefer the Netflix-Marvel series. There was no way I was going to see this in theaters/IMAX and I doubt very many people show up for it.

This gets off topic a little bit, but I'm wondering if one of these TV series models is going to win the marketplace: Network Model (1 new episode released each week) vs Netflix Model (all episodes released at the same time). I've come to the opinion that the Netflix series superior reviews are mostly due to the convenience of being able to view the entire series in less sessions than waiting each week for the next episode on TV. I find it easier to follow the plot and character motivations in a Netflix series than trying to remember what happened on Game of Thrones last week.

Stranger Things is the perfect example for me - I loved that show when it came out because of all the 80s nostalgia and entertaining story. But, in retrospect, that show was very similar to Wayward Pines on FOX, and I watched the first season of that show on Hulu every week. I thought Wayward Pines was hokey, yet fun enough to get through the entire season. It made me wonder if I would have enjoyed Wayward Pines more if I was able to watch the entire series in a few days, but it also got me thinking would Stranger Things be as well received if I had to wait a week to watch a new episode? I had no desire to watch Wayward Pines S2, but I can't wait for the next season of Stranger Things. I wonder how many viewers prefer the Netflix model to the Network model?

Final thought: how do the DC-TV series compare to the MCU shows on ABC? and also how do the DC shows compare to the Netflix-Marvel series?

To answer your first question, yes, ALL the Marvel produced TV series out there right now exist in the same MCU as both the movies and all the TV shows. Therefore, they all link together and even have constant easter eggs that remind you of such. The only exception would be Legion, which is co-produced by both Marvel TV and Fox (Fox owns the X-Men characters), and as of right now, that show doesn't tie to either the MCU or even the Fox X-Men movie universe. It exists on its own.

I think a lot of the success of the streaming model is all the inherent advantages it has by not having to fulfill a ton of automatic requirements that comes with network TV. For one, streaming seasons can be however long they want to be. Network TV series all usually have to be around 23 episodes, which is a really long time to carry out one throughput story. You inevitably end up with a bunch of filler episodes just trying to fill time. Also, just in the length of episodes, streaming series can choose any length they'd like to fit their story. Some episodes are significantly longer than others whereas you can't do that on network television. Another advantage would be commercials where network TV has to set up cliffhangers essentially every 10 minutes or so to keep the audience hooked and coming back. There is none of this required with streaming. From a budget perspective, some of the bigger budgets tend to come on the streaming side of things. Lastly, when it comes to mature content, streaming really ends up having the freedom to do whatever they want, whereas there is a lot of limitations on network television. Therefore, all said and done, streaming TV is essential TV with a ton more freedom than network TV, which is why in general, I'd say the quality has been better. Also, there is even quite a bit of difference in freedom on the network front alone. ABC is probably the worst for allowing freedom whereas networks like FX allow quite a bit of it, which puts them closer to in line with a streaming series than a network series. This is also why I think they produce so much good content over there.

As for comparing all the superhero TV shows out there, that is something I keep updated rankings for, so hopefully this helps you out a bit:

  1. The Flash (Season 1)
  2. Daredevil (Season 2)
  3. Daredevil (Season 1)
  4. Arrow (Season 2)
  5. Arrow (Season 1)
  6. Legion (Season 1)
  7. The Flash (Season 2)
  8. Supergirl (Season 1)
  9. Jessica Jones (Season 1)
  10. Luke Cage (Season 1)
  11. Agents of Shield (Season 2)
  12. Agent Carter (Season 1)
  13. Powerless (Season 1)
  14. Agents of Shield (Season 1)
  15. Agents of Shield (Season 3)
  16. Agent Carter (Season 2)
  17. Iron Fist (Season 1)
  18. Preacher (Season 1)
  19. Arrow (Season 3)
  20. Constantine (Season 1)
  21. Arrow (Season 4)
  22. Legends of Tomorrow (Season 1)
As you can see on here, there is really some good shows out there for every TV model. Also, things can REALLY vary based on the season, which is why I base my rankings on season rather than the overall shows. For instance, the Arrow seasons are all over the board. Currently, I'm just wrapping up all the latest DC TV show series (Arrow Season 5, LOT Season 2, Supergirl Season 2, Flash Season 3), so I'll be updating these to include those series once I'm finished. FYI... Arrow has gotten a lot better and has turned its tide around. Lastly, the only series out there I probably don't watch is Gotham, but sometime I'd like to pick it up when time allows.

Did anyone happen to check out The Inhumans in Imax this past weekend by chance? If so, thoughts?

P.S. I'm kind of going out on a limb here asking this question as I'm pretty sure the answer will be silence..... so no

Doesn't sound like many people saw it at all:

https://www.bleedingcool.com/2017/09/03/marvels-inhumans-dead-last-box-office-charts-weekend/

The weekend box office estimates (Fri-Sun) are in, and things aren’t looking great for Marvel’s Inhumans. The movie brought in just $2.6 million globally, earning it the last place in a chart of 25 films tracked by ComScore. Amongst 18 features with domestic box office takes this weekend, Inhumans ranks 15th, with $1.5 million.

So, I started watching Season 4 of Agents of Shield last night (I know I'm about a year too late) and wow, I've got to say I was pretty impressed. This episode probably had the greatest budget and production value of any AOS episode I've seen yet. Ghost Rider looked great, who they cast as Ghost Rider was really good, and the episode wast just solid overall. Granted, pretty much all TV series, including AOS usually go a bit all-out on budget and production value for their first episodes in order to hook the audience before they tend to back off some mid-season. Still, it looked good and there is no doubt this series is really trying to get better and make corrections with the passing of every season. It is also obvious that with the later time-slot this show had been on that they are much more willing to go darker and more violent than they had been in the past, even though it isn't Marvel Netflix dark. In general, they've done that already a bit with every new season, which has helped to eliminate out some of the excess cheese-factor that earlier seasons suffered from.

<<<<Not Even Remotely MCU Related>>>>>>>>

But since it is genre related and doesn't really deserve its own thread, what is everyone's thoughts on the first official image of David Harbor as Hellboy?????

Personally, I'm kind of digging it. Truthfully, I don't see it as that different than Ron Perlman's look, ouside of maybe a grittier look to everything. Obviously the hand has some of those same grittier changes.

Gotham is NOT good at all. Reminds me of the bad Schumacher Batman films but in series form
One opinion. I disagree. IMDB user ratings consistently greater than 8 with a lot of episodes greater than 9.

I just finished season 2 and cant wait for season 3 on Netflix next week.

I think they have done a good job of building origin stories for the major villains and tying them together.

Again, haven't seen it yet, but I have heard it has gotten better with every season, especially more lately.

FYI... I'm on episode 11 for Agents of Shield Season 4 right now and I'm still digging the series. I really can't stand the Mace/Patriot character (way too over the top, which almost characterizes him) in general and as usual, the characterization of Daisy is a bit all over the place, so I don't love her. However, other than those two things, this is my favorite season yet so far of Agents of Shield. Hopefully it continues to be good.

Oh yeah.... I still can't stand Agent May. However, she has at least gotten to a borderline tolerable level over time. Agent Coulsen, Fitz and Simmons are still the standout regulars of the cast that I love.
