There is now a tower live with 4G LTE in Des Moines, I am not familiar with the area but people are saying near east side Library.

Is there a Sprint store in CR within an activated 4G/LTE area? If so, take your phone in and have them check it out.
The PRL hasn't been used as a mechanism for controlling access to LTE for this rollout, it has all been done via network settings on the cell sites themselves. While this may be a capability of Qualcomm chipsets, Sprint doesn't distinguish PRLs by device or geography, they do it by account type.

It is a good idea to keep current on your PRL, but for the case of getting an LTE signal during the rollout in Iowa right now, it won't make a difference.
As I mentioned before, the best way to try and pickup LTE on your device if you are in an area where you know LTE coverage exists is to cycle airplane mode. When there are just a few LTE sites on air in the early stages of the build, your device can pass in and out of coverage before it needs to reestablish a data session, and due to this it will never move over to 4G. Coming out of airplane mode the device will re-register for data, and if it is hitting an LTE capable site it will setup an LTE session.

Did you check the mobile data setting I mentioned above? I have been getting it fine from both of the active towers all weekend, and today already too.
It may be worth a trip to the sprint store.

My phone has picked it up in Chicago and Minnesota with its current settings. I will go out this afternoon to the sites that are indicated as being active and check it out. Thanks!

380 and Blairs Ferry Road is now active. Out of the 3 sites working I have my home and work covered now
Blairs Ferry is a really long road, today I could get 4G from Edgewood to C ave on Blairs Ferry
I was on the SW side in the afternoon on 33rd AVE between Target and 380 and DID get 4G service steadily...it popped in and out of 4G when I was closer to Westdale Mall (if you could call that place a mall...different topic I know).
I just drove thru it tonight...close to the East mixmaster. i was whoooohooo!!! and like that it was gone lol.
Yeah I understand that but I am still struggling trying to get 4G on my MIFI router anywhere on Blairs Ferry. I might take it to work with me tomorrow and see if I can get 4G downtown since people are saying they are getting 4G there too.
Does this mean Virgin will get 4G in Des Moines? I've never really had a problem with the service from Virgin, I'm just tired of hearing from all my Verizon snob friends about how much better they are
4G in Cedar Rapids seems to be in testing still...I had 4G near the Westdale Mall area this morning on my way to work. The only area in Cedar Rapids that I have noticed that seems like 4G is always on is on the I380 area south half of the city.
Wow, only took them three years longer than they said it would take. I even went through a two year contract with Sprint starting in 2010 in which they told me that 4G would be in CR by summer 2011. That contract expired a year before they finally got 4G in CR, and I gladly became a Verizon customer.
For those of you thinking switching to Sprint is worth it - don't do it. It truly sucks compared to Verizon. I would much rather pay $90/month for a smart phone that can actually live up to its capabilities on the network compared to $75 for a smart phone on Sprint that is almost worthless when you're not on wifi.

IMO, Sprint's 4G roll-out has been a colossal cluster fudge, and I've been a Sprint user since 1999. Here in Arlington, there are several 4G towers that have been down for 6+ months, leaving significant coverage holes. Not only is the 4G down, but 3G/voice is down on those towers as well, where at least before the "upgrade", those towers had working 3G/voice. Coverage maps aren't updated to show the outages. I think there have been a couple of attempts at class action lawsuits against Sprint regarding the 4G roll-out.
In checking various forums, this seems to be the norm in the markets where roll-out has occurred. It's just hard to fathom how how this equipment/backbone/software/whatever-the-problem-is can work so badly.
Maybe this is Sprint's clandestine approach to throttle it's unlimited data plans: Data is umlimited !! (when you can find a working tower). On the towers that work, the speed is great, and unlimited data is nice. Hopefully they can pull it together...
