Big XII options for sanctioning Texas Tech

In Tech’s defense, it’s hard to due diligence on transfers in a climate where mass movement all happens within a one or two week span.

I still think ire needs to be directed at the lack of a system/coherent calendar, rather than Tech. Don’t hate the player, hate the game.

Now if evidence surfaces that they knew about the gambling issues ahead of time, then I think I’d be on your side.
Agreed, I dont understand how Cincinnati and Indiana haven't been dragged into this yet. Seems like the NCAA has time on their hands, should be doing some investigating into what the schools there knew.

Will be curious if legally it makes sense for Big12 Conference to announce any penalties before the NCAA appeal takes place.

If the Texas court upholds Sorsby's ability to play with 2 game suspension, then the Big 12 could step in with suspension applying to Big12 games.

IMO the entity that should be saber rattling is the CFB Playoff Committee. If TT was excluded from the CFP for 2-3 years by playing Sorsby, that might give TT pause in supporting Sorsby's ability to play.

There is a precedent to Bowl bans.

The thing is until the Tacos actually play Sorsby it's all threats and saber rattling. Nobody can actually do anything until they actually play him.

The bottom line is until courts stop interjecting their opinions into college athletics there isn't a single governing body that's going to have any credibility or authority to enforce any kind of rules. While the NCAA has always been a joke in my lifetime because of their voluntary selective enforcement of their own rules (i.e., "Cleveland St got punished because the NCAA was really mad at Kentucky), the courts have made any kind of consistent ability to enforce rules all but impossible.

The way the Taco Tech Longwhorns have embraced the villain role over the last year, especially over the Sorsby scandal, I don't think anybody's having sympathy for them anytime soon. At this point I actually hate them more than I hate Utah... and my feelings about the Eewtes haven't changed one bit.
The bottom line...
He gambled on his own team...not once or twice...many times. What's the NCAA punishment for that? His collegiate athletic career is over. Not against him getting treatment, counseling to help him if Texas Tech wants to do that. He can still be a student at Texas Tech to further his academic career...But his collegiate athletic career is over. If he still wants to pursue football...no one is stopping him. There's multiple pro outlets he can pursue that will allow him to do so. But his collegiate athletic career is over. He violated the one initiative that clearly states that would terminate your athletic career...betting on your own sport...or worse...your own team.
Texas Tech also is paying this kid $5 mil + to play football...that wouldn't have anything to do with their persistence to wanting him to play would it? Hiding behind the curtain of "we are looking out for the best interest of the kid" while also saying he doesn't have to accept responsibility for his actions is not in the best interest of the kid. He broke a egregious rule and his collegiate athletic career is over.
His life is not over.
He can still pursue his degree.
He can still pursue a pro career in football.
He can also, by accepting his punishment, be an advocate for others with an addiction and show you can move forward when you make a serious mistake in life.
The grownups at Texas Tech need to actually grow up and quit justifying their actions because the kid can chuck a football 70 yards downfield and win football games for them.
There's more to life than football...
Maybe not at Texas Tech however.

Say Texas Tech starting DL gets a DUI. His defense is he's an alcoholic and goes to counseling. Tech's got to keep him on the team and play him as they are the best suited for his mental health as they claim? What a cluster.

Why is that? With the B12 filing, the odds perhaps increase that TT settles with Sorsby in advance of the NFL Supplemental Draft or in advance of Week 3.
The Big 12 has given Tech an off ramp to their silly nonsense. We’ll see if they take it.

What I'm saying is that the Big 12 took this step because they knew Tech wasn't going to just 'do the right thing' without threat of legal action. They were never going to 'come to their senses'.

Hell, they still may not.

They took this step mainly because of Paxtons threat and also like you said just in case Tech wants to take Paxton up on his offer.

Just boot them to the PAC 8 or whatever it is or the Mt West, whatever those two conferences are these days.
If they booted them, I dont see any of the other conferences wanting them. They arent worth enough, and their billionaire booster that just buys players and teams is not making them any more enticing to any other P4 league, either. They are quickly getting the problem child rep, and dont have the clout of UT to make up for it.

This whole thing is insane. Sorsby cannot be allowed to play. I don't care what it takes. Otherwise we've accepted the precedent that athletes can bet on their own team, and can do so moving forward.

I cannot believe TT and their fans are even questioning it. So dumb.

The Big 12 needs to step up and put a halt to Sorsby's eligibility. If the conference doesn't, the initial rumblings we've heard from the B1G & SEC (about boycotting TTU) will only intensify. If TTU then has a stellar season, the Big 12 CONFERENCE's credibility will take an even more severe hit because our representative to the playoffs is a "team that cheats." I don't think the B1G or SEC respects our conference anyway, but this would give them ammo to publicly denounce our conference. Honestly, I would love for the Big 12 to kick Taco Tech to the curb - this, for me, is approaching Baylor levels of disdain.
