Texas Tech 10 Million Dollar Portal Season

What a mess. Not good for the Big 12, not good for football. Tech's new spending will be to line some attorney's pocket, in order to fight the rest of, well everybody.

Some were starting to think well of Tech? All of this reminds me of the saying, “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” Are money and power corrupting TT? Kind of seems like it.

Don’t worry despite all evidence to the contrary TT will still do the “noble” thing and not play him lol

People legit just believe what they want despite every fact and action pointing to the opposite, truly the human mind is a marvel
I love it when people pretend to know exactly what's going to happen and mock the folks who dare to think otherwise.

"Every fact and action" is not "pointing to the opposite".

The NCAA has officially declared Sorsby ineligible and Tech has basically said they're going to play him anyway. Regardless of the judge's ruling, the Big 12 still has every legal right to impose serious sanctions with a supermajority vote and the Big 12 commissioner, AD's, and presidents are exploring possible sanctions right now.

There's a real possibility the conference could impose sanctions serious enough to convince Tech that playing a quarterback with a 14-21 career record is not worth it, not to mention the massive horrible PR their institution is only beginning to feel.

Regardless of this final outcome, I lost all respect for Texas Tech. They are exactly what is wrong with college sports today

Says one of the gullible that believe that with the way things stand right now TT wouldn't play him.

Yeah the Big 12 could put pressure on TT, but the fact is the Big 12 shouldn't have to put pressure on TT. Once the NCAA ruled he was ineligible because of gambling TT should have parted with him then, but no they doubled down and took it to court. TT right now is everything that is wrong with college sports and they keep doubling down on that because they have to win at all costs.

Not disagreeing with anything you said, except maybe the "gullible" comment. :)

Every statement made by Tech (Campbell, TT President, McQuire) hints that he will play. They are digging in at this point and attacking anyone that is critical of them.

That's very true, but we're only at the very beginning of this mess. Tech hasn't heard yet what the Big 12 will do, if anything, in response to their decision. We'll have to see how it all plays out.

Sorry, anyone who believes that TT is voluntarily not going to play him is gullible.
There's really nothing "voluntarily" about it. If the conference sanctions are serious enough (along with the cost to their national reputation), they'll reluctantly decide it's not worth playing a QB with a 14-21 record.

Voluntarily would be them not taking it to court and just telling him he wasn't playing but we are past that because TT needs to win at all costs.

Didn't this all start with college athletes should be able to make money off of their names and likeness with third party endorsements?

Yeah, but it will also be voluntary when they realize it isn't worth it and move on. Because apart from PR, Tech hasn't suffered any real consequences. They will when the Big 12 does something, the Big 10 and SEC stop scheduling them, and they can't get into any good early-season tournaments

You can draw the line from that to the current situation but I feel weird doing that because I feel like no one could have really seen this coming. I've been pretty anti-NIL from the beginning and I didn't see it coming.

I always thought NIL would lead to problems but yeah, I doubt many saw this coming.

The judge's injunction was just stupid. Hopefully they can get an appeal scheduled so it can be overturned and the whole thing becomes moot except TTU getting a big PR black eye. Hopefully, our coaches and AD would say "the guy isn't playing. Period. End of story." If the megadonor doesn't like it, he can find another team to buy. Ours isn't for sale.

The worst part was when they said, "we're only supporting our player" as though they were not committed to playing him. No chance Sorsby takes it to court if there was even a 1% shot Tech was going to cut him loose somewhere down the line. They are playing everyone for fools and should never live that down.

Guess we could argue the definition of voluntary. If someone holds a gun to my head and tells me not to do something, I don't consider my decision not to do something as voluntary. I'm thinking that's essentially what the Big 12 conference will do to Tech.

We'll all find out in the next several weeks. If it turns out I'm wrong, it won't be the first or last time.

I honestly don't think they thought they'd get the injunction and didn't have a plan in place. That's all that makes sense here. The amount of damage they've done to their reputation in 2 weeks is massive. Once the seats inevitably get rearranged, there's no chance they get an invite from the SEC/Big 10. All to try and maintain the eligibility of a guy who has been a very average college quarterback.
