They don't have as long of a history as a lot of the teams listed, but the Rockies have to be up there. In the 33 years of their franchise, they have made the World Series once (got swept), have 5 total playoff appearances in which the other 4 they have not made it past the NLDS, and they have NEVER won the NL West.

They also own the worst winning percentage in MLB among active franchises. And I don't see a path for them to improve on that any time soon.

Trying to decide between the Browns and the Kings. Jets are bad but they at least have a Super Bowl appearance and win during their existence (1968 season).

-Browns won championship last in the 1964 season before the Super Bowl existed. Only 4 years longer championship drought than the Jets but still not a Super Bowl. Franchise moved away but they at least got a team again eventually.

-Looked into the Kings history and found out they started in 1923 in Rochester, NY. Joined the NBL in 1945 and were then named the Royals. Become part of NBA in 1949. Won a championship in 1951 (most recent). Move to Cincinnati in 1957. Move to KC in 1972 and have to be renamed to the Kings since the KC Royals already existed. Move to Sacramento in 1985. Still no championships since '51 and been target of relocation for many recent years.

Verdict: Browns have the worst franchise history in US's most popular sport but Kings have a much worse franchise history in US's 2nd most popular sport and receive my vote.

I think you're really underestimating how bad the Timberwolves have been too... Lotta recency bias going into them not being on the list.

I feel like the Twins could be in the mix here.
Yeah, i don't see how anyone could be a twins fan. The owners are such ass that they tried selling the team and got no nibbles. It feels like each year they write a letter to the fanbase that they are serious about winning and proceed to cut the team budget in half. They have some of the richest owners in the MLB that are afraid to spend money. I'm just happy I'm not a big baseball fan, there is no way i would have any enjoyment following my local team.

Kings and A's are in their own world. Probably some MLS teams we could pull in

Recent-ish time Browns just have an incredible ability from ownership downward to always make the wrong decision on practically anything, all the time. Without fail. The Jets have frequently teetered in that same space.

And the Rockies have some actual permanent disadvantages (e.g. curve balls won’t drop as much because of the altitude and thin air, etc) that cast doubt on whether they can ever be consistently good.

It seems like the Rockies have the same disadvantages of the other franchises in the poll (poor management, small market, less money in a sport with no salary cap, etc). But none of the other teams listed face actual quantifiable disadvantages like the altitude in a sport where that seems to really matter.

I just saw something a few days ago that noted the Arizona Cardinals are the worst team in the NFL when it comes to playoffs/years in existence. The Seattle Mariners are up there as well in MLB.

Eh, the A's dominated the AL and won 3 World Series in the 70s and won a title as recently as '89 and were in an ALCS in '06 and made the playoffs as recently as 2020. They're currently awful but not historically.
Meh, they won 3 years in a row starting 54 years ago and then 89. Aside from that have been terrible

It's a shame their ownership sucks. An absolute gem of a ballpark and super easy to get to.

I meant to add the Rockies to the list, but forgot. Maybe it is because they are a forgettable franchise.

I wasn't sure who to put for the NHL. When I googled, the consensus came up Arizona/Phoenix Coyotes, but they relocated to Salt Lake City. Maybe Buffalo Sabers, but don't know much about the franchise or hockey enough to put them on the list.

Yet they averaged 30,000 in attendance last year. It's remarkable.
People go because tickets are cheap with the team sucking and it’s something to do in the summer downtown. Or you’re a transplant going to see your hometown/childhood team. Good chunk of those people aren’t there for the baseball, especially on the rooftop.
