Bill Fennelly

It pretty much indicates that Bill will finish out the contract. I think it ends next season. No extension likely.

It feels like Bill was setting up to do that retire thing in August...forcing an interim situation and Billy would get the gig for a year...to show how well it could work! Bill still might do that...but it is going to be an ugly season next year!

This is what I was thinking as well. The Bruce Pearl maneuver. Now he might not want to do that with all of the scrutiny and the fact the team is going to absolutely terrible.

If he did that he would forfeit the $700K retention bonus so doubt that will happen.

We have JP guaranteeing us that we will have a team of girls that want to be here, and Lyndsey Fennelly guaranteeing us that we will have a team. Those are some pretty lofty standards.

There's a story in the Bible about a hand that appeared and wrote on the wall. In that story though the King saw it and found out what it meant. It appears that Bill doesn't see or want to see the "Handwriting on the wall". Yet at this juncture it may not even matter. Next season will be 90% portal players anyway and some will be no better than even the worst ones who left and some may surprise everyone in a good way. I would think at this point it would be better to let a new coaching staff start a rebuild. But since I'm not a successful prophet I've learned to sometimes keep my mouth shut. But I can still say THIS SUCKS !!

The story has kind of become player retention, while just ignoring the fact that results alone would probably get him canned at a real school. He's consistently underachieved in the Big 12 and tournament play relative to the talent.

One Sweet 16 in 15 years, with it being an upset to a 10 seed. A loss to a 12 seed in 2023. Getting smoked by a bad Syracuse team this year. 0 regular season Big 12 championships since 2000.

And at many schools the performance would generate a contract extension. We’ve been spoiled by success here. Making the dance nearly every year when the majority of programs in this country only aspire to achieve close to the same success. Doesn’t mean we can’t want more. That’s the nature of being a fan. It’s like footbalL. ISU has sucked for much of its existence. Campbell got us used to having winning seasons and then what happened? Fans started grousing when certain games were lost and we weren’t playing in the title game every year. In football and basketball I alwaysremember those crappy years. I also always wish we could do better, but remembering the lousy years makes me thankful for the level of success we have. After all, we could consistently be the UCF, Pittsburg or Rutgers of the WBB world.

So what you are saying is.... Bill Fennelly is Fran McCaffrey.

This definitely a Fennelly issue.

1 school year and 2 programs decimated (Football and Women's BB). I contend that coaching has a LOT to do with portaling. Yes, the money is part of it, too.... but how many times have we heard of players staying (despite more $ offered elsewhere) because of the coach and culture? The coach makes a massive difference in sports.
And this is the 2nd time in as many years the WBB roster has seen big names leave. It’s entirely a Fennelly problem. If his on court demeanor is any indication of what he’s like behind closed doors we have a huge culture problem that Jamie is choosing to ignore at this point

I know he's "earned the right to leave on his own terms", but I wish they'd just do a full send and hit the reset button now and get rid of him.

This is essentially where our WBB program is at right now although if the season started today we wouldn't even have 4 players on the floor. And there likely is not a scenario where a star player like Jimmy all the sudden joins the team and carries them to a championship either.
