***Official 2026 NCAA Tournament Thread***

I’m not taking this as being argumentative or anything other than a conversation so I hope you feel the same way… But this is literally the definition of the kinds of things that I like to get to the bottom of…

Nobody truly knows what any team is going to be next year… I mean, I was surprised to find out BILL Self in Kansas hasn’t been past the first weekend in a long time… thanks @HoopsTournament Now I promise you there are fans on the Kansas board and fans all around the country that are saying “bills done, it’s time for his him to retire”, but that’s just “those“ kind of fans…

I assure you, Bill can still coach basketball. Has he lost his passion. Hell I don’t know, but that kind of rhetoric always drives me nuts….

So how does that pertain to Iowa you ask…

Well, here’s the thing..,I would imagine you, like me don’t necessarily find that Iowa team overly talented, but this coach… Who has a long, long, long history of putting highly coached basketball teams on the court is probably more likely to keep succeeding than the other way around so in reality, I believe what people really mean is….man I hope to hell Iowa doesn’t start being good…

Just like rival fans want Bill self to not be able to coach anymore, and the ****** fans on his own board are gonna respond like that no matter who the coach is and I’ve witnessed that firsthand on about 50 different message boards, including Michigan State and Tom Izzy at points in time

There's a direct correlation to Kansas sliding and everyone getting to pay players. LOL I'll let you do the math.... I hate admitting it but I'm a bit of a Self fan and the dude can flat out coach X's and O's but he's absolutely lost his edge and has really struggled with building the right rosters in this new ear of hoops. Last year he constructed a very incomplete roster and this year the handed a pile of cash to Peterson and he was a dumpster fire. Life was a lot easier when it was just Kansas and a few other schools working with a different set of instructions...

I'm remembering back in the mid 90s my high school would have TVs set up in the library and lunch room that would play tournament games. Some of the teachers would even bring in a TV and let us watch instead of teaching. Anyone else have that at their school?
Yep. It was my senior year and there were TVs set up in the cafeteria and everyone could watch games, several classes were dismissed so we could watch games, it was one of the days that 14-seed UNI upset 3-seed Mizzou in the first round. It was awesome.

I will never forget the Valpo Bryce Drew three in 1998. I'm not sure how we pulled it off but me and like 5 of my buddies somehow skipped school that afternoon and I just remember those games being bonkers.

Nebraska was never gonna make a deep run with how they were constructed, same for Iowa. They just lucked out playing each other with Iowa doing more by actually beating Florida to get there.

Either team was gonna get stomped by Illinois and Iowa is gonna lose on Saturday by double digits. Just a weird region this year and add in Zona obliterating Purdue and half the final 4 is already set

This is the reality but if you're an Iowa fan you absolutely soak this in, this is what the tournament is all about. Both can be true, Iowa is absolutely clicking and they've caught a couple breaks.

Must have been pretty rough to lose 4 of their last 5 (including two first round tournament games) on their way to a 26-6 overall record (had to look that up, of course).

My greatest sports prediction, if not greatest achievement in life, was predicting Missouri to win the Big 8 tournament as the #7 seed three years later.

Are you kidding me… there are fans of a sporting team that actually think they have a chance. What a bunch of idiots. If I run into any of them, I’ll let them know they are people in the Iowa State fan base that think they’re morons for having hope

You clearly did not read what I said. If they think they can win because they have some motivation or focus advantage, that is laughable. I explicitly said they have a chance, but it's not because this is a "revenge tour"

That is 100% the reason why I don’t talk **** about Teams pretty much anymore… The blowback is awful. After 40+ years of sports watching I generally expect the unexpected and then if I am just a ******** and constantly talking trash about my rival, it is eventually going to come back on me.

It always does… Much easier to live this way. Be happy.
I mean especially with college sports, pro sports I feel less stupid about lol

Feels like the challenge rules have made the games flow better. I feel like the end of games last year were so disjointed with everything getting reviewed

Incredibly poor coaching by Nebraska at times last night. Letting Mast taking 7 3-point shots and continually allow Sam Hoiberg to dribble drive head down into the lane was inexcusable. The early defensive game plan was poor too. Up by 10 multiple times and continued to keep the pace of play high and it let Iowa back into it. Also didn't help that the refs swallowed the whistle despite Mast leaving the lane every time with red marks from all the times he got smacked.
Seems like Nebraska lacks guys that can create offense. So they got stuck with Hoiberg having to try to drive and make plays in the lane a lot.

Cool memories to have.

I hate to admit I'm so old that, when I was in high school:
* No (reliable) TV reception at school. (Definitely no cable)
* NCAA Tournament wasn't as big of a "thing" in general, beyond maybe Final Four weekend.
* 48-team field back then.

Not all fans.. most here thought a S16 appearance was possible before the season started. We didn’t know how the newcomers would perform though.

But by December we could see this ISU team had the potential to be top 10 in the country. Lo and behold, they were
You got me curious. After searching way too long I gave up finding the preseason prediction thread, but I cited my predictions in the early December update.

I feel pretty good about it!:

Needs a little tweaking though. It's dumb that you can be right with a challenge twice and then not be allowed to challenge again

Pretty spot on! Now can you tell me the next lottery numbers?

No, but before the tournament started I placed the largest sports bet of my life on the Cyclones to win it all.

Rookie mistake. The money line wasn’t going to go down after beating a #15 seed, but it does go up after a major injury.
