My Dad was a juror on the last state death penalty case in Iowa in the 1960s. He didn’t talk about it much, but I know it was very stressful for him.

My brother in law served on a Federal Grand Jury for the Northern District of Iowa for like 2 years, so he had to drive once a month down to Cedar Rapids from Dubuque for a few days when Breaking Bad was on tv. Based on his experience with that grand jury, he could basically tell which steps in the meth making process were left out of the show.I gotten called like 3 times and served on the jury one time. Pretty easy case. My boss had to serve on Federal Jury for like 2 months.
Didn't think you would be interested in anyone else getting a cutI wonder if there is a statute of limitations on circumcision lawsuits? I couldn't walk for a year after my circumcision.
But then again I was 6 days old when it happened. I may need a really good lawyer who is willing to take case on % of settlement.
I forgot about that. ISU related, albeit a morbid one and a stretch, is that Jeffrey Dahmer lived in Pammel Court. I believe his parents were grad students, and they moved to Wi when he was like 5.The Iowa murder that hits closest to home for me was ISU related. Dale Royer was a TA for one of my classes at ISU shortly before he started that house fire that killed his former professor's kids.
Plus there doesn't have to be a relationship. And just because someone remains married, doesn't mean the marriage is solid.I'm not agreeing with the love triangle aspect, but I keep seeing the accused women described as old, or in this case a hag
Are people forgetting she was only 38 at the time of the murder?
Yes, still 12 years older than Ashley at the time, but much younger than she is today
Why would you kill someone's kids because of their dads issues? What exactly do you gain out of that? Its more than likely a sex offender who somewhat knew the girls. If I have dirt on someone killing my kids sure as **** isn't getting me to not talk. Especially if I'm a low level drug pusher that has been granted immunity. People who are in the drug business kill other people in the drug business. They don't kill children and bring 10x the heat on to themselves killing innocent children. That makes no sense. Is it some perv addict friend of their parents? Maybe, however killing someone's kid so their parents won't talk really makes no sense. If you know something or owe me money I'm killing you, not your kids. I have absolutely zero to gain. Were they messing around with Haitians or something? Anyone who kills kids over their parents drug problems are getting killed by someone bigger than them. You don't cross that line. So I agree that it's probably some user the parents knew but they did it for sexual gratification. They know exactly who it is, they just can't get them placed at the wildlife preserve where they were found. Apparently already in prison for a long time but they'll get to where they can place the mastermind there.
They were going after Lyric because of her dad's drug issues and Elizabeth was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Think Johnny Goesch is probably the most famous in Iowa.
One of the cases that I got called for was a civil lawsuit against some doctors, the hospital and a language interpretation company. After explaining the lawsuit, the lawyer for the guy suing asked us to be honest and would any of us not be able to take the case seriously. The guy and his wife that were suing were about 60 year-old foreigners who couldn't speak english.
The lawsuit was brought because the old gentleman wanted a circumcision and came out of the hospital with a vasectomy! LOL, true story!
I raised my hand when the suing lawyer asked that question. He asked me why I couldn't take the lawsuit seriously. I began my rant and the judge spoke up and said that she had a feeling where my reply was going and that she'd have to clear the courtroom of prospective jurors before I answered the lawyer's question. LOL, she didn't want me to poison the whole prospective jury pool.
After the courtroom cleared I proceeded with my rant. I used the term "frivolous lawsuit" a lot and the problem that professionals were having in obtaining affordable liability insurance because of lawsuits like this. I pointed out that this issue was personal to me being a professional engineer. The lawyer thanked me for being so honest, lol. It worked, as I was dismissed in the first cut.
Because normal people can't afford to lose several weeks of pay. I mean you make absolutely nothing being on the jury. Besides that it can be emotionally draining. You're talking about losing 8-10k in pay over 3 weeks for someone who makes 100k a year. Most people don't even make that. If the county wants to match my pay let's do it and I'll take it seriously.I just don’t understand why people want out of jury duty (unless it is truly an economic hardship). It’s a fascinating look at how the legal world works and it will open your eyes.
If your aren't wealthy you really don't. If you have several hundred thousand in the bank and make 200k yearly maybe you can afford it. In reality on a huge case you're talking a week in jury selection alone, and then 2 weeks for trial. I mean I can't live on the 40$ per day or whatever they gave me. That's the main issue for 99% of people. The county isn't paying my mortgage and car payment for the 2-3-4 weeks I'm in court. I want to say I got like a 200$ check from Polk County for missing 4 days of work. I bring home around 400$ a day after taxes . Yeah it doesn't work. I do usually take 3-4 weeks off a year unpaid but it isn't to hang out at the Polk County Courthouse.I really want to get called someday. I’m pretty sure with my job I just get paid normal and the jury pay goes to my job. I always find it interesting some people get called multiple times and some people never get called.
What county? I'm not gonna say I didn't think about having sex with other jurors I'm just not sure about the marriage part.Jury duty got a buddy of mine laid. They've been married 30 years now.
Chuckle...I hear you. However, he got a free vasectomy and he could always get the circumcision still at a later time. The couple were obviously well past child bearing age so he wasn't out anything there. Now if the couple were in their child bearing years I agree, I wouldn't call it a frivolous lawsuit, that would be serious. While I agree with your general position on frivolous lawsuits, I’m not sure this one qualifies. I am certain that I wouldn’t think the mistake was frivolous if it was my… appendage.
To be fair guys don't necessarily get past child bearing age.Chuckle...I hear you. However, he got a free vasectomy and he could always get the circumcision still at a later time. I would like to know the story behind why he wanted a circumcision while in his 60's.
True, he might have wanted to have a child with his mistress or something.....To be fair guys don't necessarily get past child bearing age.
my round was an eye-opening on different viewpoints. But mostly frustrating on my part that a small group of my co jurors wanted to grant the plaintiff money, even though they felt the defendant wasn’t at fault, they felt “sorry” for the plaintiff.About 10 months after I got out of the Navy I was called for jury duty and sat on a murder trial in Des Moines. The defense team/defendant put on the worst defense imaginable. We convicted within 30 minutes. One old woman holdout smh.
