Nothing new but these 5A teams only playing 6 players sucks for a lot of good players. No wonder kids are choosing club volleyball over basketball.
I do sometimes wonder what the point of school sports is anymore? I am involved in them...as are my kids...but often question their purpose of late!
Or are those the six club players who have more developed skills that give them the best chance to win and the non club players are the ones on the bench?
More like there are 15 basketball club players but only 6 play and then they all quit and the numbers of girls playing basketball declines significantly.

The best path to playing time probably isn’t playing for one of the largest dsm suburban schools.
On the boys side you see a lot of former CIML kids in the little hawkeye and raccoon river.
Yeah it’s just the nature of the beast. 8th and 9th grade you’ll have 80 kids out. By the time 10th is over you’ll have 15.
Huh, according to the IHSAA the entire state basketball tournament will be on YouTube (free), the IHSAA website (free), 9 different OTA TV channels (free), with the finals on Iowa PBS (free).

The biggest change is that starting this year boys basketball is being streamed for free. The Iowa High School Sports Network made you pay for the streaming of games in past years. The championship games will still be on over the air television as they always have in the past it's just going from stations like 17 in Des Moines and 28 in Cedar Rapids to Iowa PBS.
So we've moved the goalposts from "None of the IHSAA stuff is free" to "Why do I pay for preliminary rounds of wrestling (that have never been televised)."
Do that many more girls play during a volleyball match? Are girls leaving volleyball bc of it? It's killing basketball at the small schools, I don't pay as much attention to the big schools but teach/coach at a 1a school and VB is destroying basketball at our level. The common narrative seems to be that club VB is killing most other girls sports, I've never heard it blamed on bball. VB is pay to play, you don't have to compete or really even be that good and you can always find a spot, if you are willing to pay.

It seems like the last 10 years central Iowa schools have been destroying eastern Iowa schools in all sports at the state championship level. Anyone here have theories why?
