Iowa High School BEDS count 24-25

Orient Macksburg is done as a school at the end of this school year. On top of that you have this. I’m sure she is persona non grata in the community.

Honestly that’s terrible.

Another 739 bucks per month for a family plan? What is this country coming to.

Some small school realignment news...

AGWSR is leaving the NICL for the Iowa Star citing slightly reduced travel with the NICL going away from divisions after this year. In reality, the travel doesn't change much but they have a chance to be much more competitive playing other 1A schools rather than all 2As and Union who sits on the 2A/3A line.

The Iowa Star has also invited Belle Plaine, East Marshall and Gladbrook-Reinbeck. I would expect East Marshall and G-R to accept. No idea on Belle Plaine.
Why? How big is Iowa Star trying to get? Are they going to try to have 3 divisions in the conference? I understand consolidating colleges into giant conferences because of money, but at High School level, I am not sure what having conferences with 20+ members makes much sense.

Seems like a lot of schools for the southern division and not as many for the northern division, if that is what they are going to stay with.

Edit: I see where NP and NB are also planning on joining.

Pure speculation but it wouldn't shock me if they were looking at 24 and breaking into 3 8s. Would make scheduling really easy.

East Buchanan, Starmont and North Linn make all sorts of sense if any of them are interested. Wapsie Valley may look as well, they're going to be the smallest school in the NICL by a decent margin now.

Putting NP and NB in makes half the OG Corn Bowl. If they did do 3, school divisions, It probably is setting up to make easy travel for most in a North, Central, South, divisions.

I guess it makes sense, at least to a point, I just am not sure how that is better than 3 separate conferences instead of divisions, at least at the High School level.

Also surprised they are adding schools as big as NB. Considering several of the schools joined Iowa Star because they were too small in old conferences. Almost all of the schools in Iowa Star have sub 100 BEDS.

Moravia would have to go to the Pride of Iowa and be reunited with Wayne, SE Warren and Leon. They are too small to go into the SCC with DC, Albia, Cardinal and Centerville, but travel wise that would be their best bet.

The Blue Grass Conference will not be around in five years I would bet. Schools like Morman Trail, Moulton and Seymour are struggling now to find enough kids to field teams in MS. Seymour and Moulton are sharing MS basketball this year and between them only have 6 or 7 kids out.
As a proud () Moravia alum, that makes me sad. Although Moravia has a higher enrollment now then when I was in school. So im glad they are holding on.

NB shared some stuff with Clarksville. Not sure how much but I know wrestling and maybe football.

I think the reason Riceville and Rockford left the Corn Bowl/Top of Iowa was because they were too small to compete with the rest of the conference. Both those schools are in the 80-90 BEDS range, and most everyone in the Iowa Star, North division are all sub 100, most being right at that 80-90 BEDS level.

Most of the old Corn Bowl are more in the 150+/- BEDS range. So just from that standpoint I am surprised they want to bring in that size school when they specifically left a conference full of that size (NB at 155, NP at 134) to join a conference of smaller sizes more similar to themselves.

Makes me wonder if they are trying to bring in some shorter travel options as even with the 2 divisions there are some longer travel games, and cost of travel is probably an issue especially for those small schools.

Moravia is sucking kids out of both Centerville and Albia, which allows them to be the largest school in the BGC. Moving to either the Pride of Iowa or SEISC would have them playing schools more there size, but they would be one of the smaller schools in both and the travel would be a killer. The closest schools in the Pride of Iowa would be Wayne and SE Warren.
Travel wise the SCC would be the way to go, but they are playing some of those teams now and struggling to get wins.

Ya, the SCC would be terrible for Moravia. I've lived those games. Not fun lol.

Ya, their win total would drop quite a bit, it's one of the reasons I found it strange that Cardinal decided to leave where they were and join the SCC. Looking at the standings they are either last or next to last in both GBB and BBB.
Moravia has done well being the large school playing smaller schools for the last decade or two in the BGC. Really Moravia is too large to be playing Moulton, Seymour and Trail, but too small to be playing Centerville, DC and Albia.

Considering both schools presented to the AD's at the SCC AD meeting, I would say it is definitely a possibility.
No way the conferences votes to let either Osky or Pella Christian into the league, only way they join would be if the state forced the league to take them.
From what I have been told, the league right now is very happy with their current 8 schools.

Well if I were King, I'd kick Knoxville out of the SCC and take Moravia. PC, Osky and Knoxville all fit well together, find another 3-4 schools and they'd be set.

And I can't speak for volleyball or track but Moravia would be more than competitive in basketball in the SCC. The SCC is downright bad in basketball both boys and girls now, and I'm not sure its going to get better.

That ain't happening. The SCC needs the gate from Knoxville visiting its towns.

Moravia going to the SCC would end up just being another Cardinal, they do not have the kids to win a lot of games in that league. As bad as the league is in bb, Moravia would struggle to win more than 3 or 4 league games.

NB shares wrestling with Clarksville still but football split back up. There are a couple Rockford kids wrestling with them as well I believe as Rockford agreed to share some of the travel cost.

Rockford also has some girls playing basketball over at NB I believe. I'm assuming that pushes them up a class which will be interesting.

Should almost just split the TOI back up into the "new corn bowl"
