Saying we are fortunate to have Pollard and he has performed very well in tough times isn't saying that we would be totally screwed if we had someone else. What gets me is the belief held by so many that Pollard has done this amazing job and we would be totally screwed without him. He has a so-so hit rate on coaching hires. Facilities and fan support have improved during his time, but the amount of money pumped into college sports has also increased exponentially.
Well, I work to earn money and provide. I eat to stay alive. But, since this is a ‘business’ and ISU supposedly cannot compete, then what happens to non-competitive businesses in the ‘real world’?What is the point of doing anything?
Ok, but Gene left town because he got offered a better job. I’d be curious how many better jobs have come after Pollard. You think we have financial issues now? Check out ISU's circumstances when Gene left town...
He already did that...it was at the press conference after Campbell left or after the CJFR press conferenceWhere did I tear him down? I want him to explain his NIL methods and uses publicly. We got a speech with no questions. That isn't enough and he's a state employee, not above reproach. Never said I wanted to be AD, but I'm sure there are lots of people in line. We just lost a program-building coach. We don't want to lose another. We're not "poor little Iowa State". We have the resources to compete. We've done it. We need to be smarter than the big SEC schools but we've shown we can do it. He's not the only person on earth who can lead our athletic department.
Yup. Ped St fans are supposedly NC or bust so those of that mindset can join CW and wait another 39 years.I love ISU but I can confidently say we will NEVER win a NC. And I am fine with that. I'll still go to games and cheer on the Cyclones….
If a Cyclone fan is NC or bust, they are cheering for the wrong school.
Iowa State is not funded with full coffers from the conference media deal like TOE. It isn't getting any state or university support, zero dollars. It isn't located in Texas where support dollars get pumped out of the ground. It has a notoriously small and stingy base of donors. And somehow it is still one of the top two or three athletics programs overall in the Big 12, if not #1.Those are key questions. Have read over and over from ISU fans and outsiders alike that ISU is a ‘poverty program’ that will never compete for a title in football. Perhaps that is true. If so, then generally, what is the point and purpose?
That leads us to our other "untouchable" target, the broader fanbase. What portion of our limited resources should be put into getting our non-donors who are reluctant to support the AD. Personally, I am coming to the conclusion that it's a lost cause.I am continually amazed by the lack of critical thinking here. Carry on with your unbridled praise. Guess I'm not a true fan. Hope TJ just decides to stick around forever because we're all super great sports fans.
Pollard would have a hard time at any of the better jobs out there. I don't think the donors and uppity Alumni would tolerate his personality.Ok, but Gene left town because he got offered a better job. I’d be curious how many better jobs have come after Pollard.
Gene also hired Tim Floyd, Larry Eustachy, Bill Fennely, and Dan McCarney.
Gene Smith looked at the problems facing ISU and decided he wanted to be somewhere else. ADJP decided to face the ISU challenges head on and not run from them.Ok, but Gene left town because he got offered a better job. I’d be curious how many better jobs have come after Pollard.

I agree with everything you wrote. Trying to get at what the answer is to a situation where ISU cannot compete with other schools in this new age. Does it continue to ‘go thru the motions’? If so, why?Iowa State is not funded with full coffers from the conference media deal like TOE. It isn't getting any state or university support, zero dollars. It isn't located in Texas where support dollars get pumped out of the ground. It has a notoriously small and stingy base of donors. Maybe people can close their eyes and wish really hard and tomorrow morning when they wake up we're Ohio State.
You mean they wouldn’t want to be talked down to and told that whatever they’re getting is the best they can possibly expect?Pollard would have a hard time at any of the better jobs out there. I don't think the donors and uppity Alumni would tolerate his personality.
It's really not that hard to figure out why...which also is part of the issues I have.Do you guys realize how entirely f**ked up it is that our fan board is shutting down threads that are even mildly critical of our athletic director?
It’s either a CF problem, a JP problem, or both.
But seriously - what a f**king joke.
They get shut down because people start verbally attacking each other and the mods can't keep up, not because of the topic.Do you guys realize how entirely f**ked up it is that our fan board is shutting down threads that are even mildly critical of our athletic director?

Agreed. It’s absolutely pathetic on all fronts. It's really not that hard to figure out why...which also is part of the issues I have.
Respectfully, you’re a sheep if you believe this. They get shut down because people start verbally attacking each other and the mods can't keep up, not because of the topic.
