Great old movies that stand the test of time

Howard Hawks one of my favorite directors.
In no particular order, some already mentioned: Only angels have wings, His girl Friday, To have and have not, Bringing up baby, The big sleep, Gentlemen prefer blondes, Red river, Rio bravo. Bogart, John Wayne, Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn, lots of Walter Brennan. Lots of smart dialog.

The Asphalt Jungle, The Killing, Some Like It Hot, Scarface (1932), Mildred Pierce, Mrs. Miniver, Wages of Fear.

Another favorite director, Akira Kurosawa. Rashomon, Stray Dog, High and Low, Throne of Blood, The Hidden Forest, The Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, The Bad Sleep Well, Ikiru. Toshiro Mifune stars in many of his films, a fantastic actor with great screen presence. Subtitled, of course, but worth it.

Dial M for Murder (hitchcock)
The Great Escape (lots of big actors-Stalag 13 WWII)
The Man Who Knew Too Much (Jimmy Stewart)

The longest day, pillow talk, some like it hot, lillies of the valley and the long, long trailer.

War Movies?
In Harms Way
The Longest Day
Exodus
The Great Dictator
Judgment at Nuremberg
Casablanca
36 Hours (Underrated)
From Here to Eternity

Has anyone said The Hustler yet? If not, how has no one said The Hustler yet? It’s one of my all time favorites.

About 15 years ago I saw Lawrence of Arabia at the Music Box Theater in Chicago, was one of the coolest movie experiences ever because of just the sound/music in the massive theater, the screen was good but not great. I think I like going to see stuff like that more than new movies even.
They don't overwhelm your senses but stimulate your mind.
