Cheer for the school, not the player.. NFL has better stars if you want to cheer for a player
Yeah people used to whine about FA in the NFL and pro sports in general. Yes, rosters change but almost every year your favorite pro team is bringing back familiar players.

What used to be great about college sports was it was the perfect mix of familiarity and finality. It’s what was so great about the NCAA tournament. Players you spent at least a couple years watching but when it’s done it’s done for a lot of players. In pro sports theres always that sense that a team is largely going to run it back the next year if they were good.

Now college sports is a bunch of one year rentals. And fans get the guilt trip from coaches, media and collectives.

Some of you guys are being way too harsh on CW.

Here’s some perspective:

- Hindsight is 20/20 and now we all have our own version of events that went down the weekend CMC left. It sucked. We all remember that right?
- It was jarring when Rogers got announced so suddenly. Many connected people (media, players, coaches, etc) had gone days without any info from Campbell about what was next. And here we get a HC named immediately.
- I would’ve put betting odds that Mouser was a favorite as HC. Why wouldn’t we expect some kind of continuity from the greatest decade in ISU football?
- CW just released his life’s work in book form. The first thing he said on his emotional pod was how chapter 1 is all about why Matt never left ISU. Very unfortunate timing, yes?
- CW is on book events around the state. He and a few others are hand packing these books to get out to customers. He did not write that book to get rich. He’s had a lot happening these past several weeks.
- I’m excited for Jimmy. People want him on the podcast immediately, but 1) the full staff isn’t officially named and 2) I’d rather Jimmy be working tirelessly to secure our roster than spend time talking to us right now.

Everyone step back and take a deep breath. You get to choose what media you consume. You are welcome to go enjoy the 247 coverage or whatever the Rag puts out if that’s your cup of tea.
My only comment here is in regards to Mouse as HC. CMC was here 10 years. It was no secret that he was perpetually looking and very likely not to stay forever. Shame on CMC for not having a succession plan in place that JP signed off on to ensure continuity.

Of course, if your self-interest dictates you plan to take all coaches and Morris and players, and you really don’t care about “leaving it better than you found it,” a succession plan is of no interest to you.

When you analyze the options, Miuser was FAR from an obvious or quick turnaround choice.
Plus, it would be the ultimate short term move to maintain some of the roster while having to learn all other aspects of the job on the fly.

It was never a credible option, IMO

Of all the places MC could have went…this is the worst. They’re literally the only team I will never root for in any game.

Vs Iowa? Go Hawks!
Vs Nebraska? I’m a Husker that day.

I loved MC as a coach here, I could move past the leaving us part…but there isn’t a world where I want pedo state to win anything.
This guy gets it.

I think you're being a little hard on CW here. Point of fact: he did indeed say that Campbell was out the door if SC had offered. He's said that more than once.

And getting close to coaches gets you access to information. Obviously there are things coaches don't want shared with the masses at certain times. But as a journalist, if you don't build solid relationships with the coaching staffs where they trust you, you're not getting scoops period. And in a 10 year span (like Campbell's here) those contacts can invariably become good friendships.

Put yourself in his shoes. If a bunch of your close friends suddenly had to uproot their lives out of nowhere, might you feel a little emotional? Cut the guy some slack.
No. I’d wish them well. And tell them to call me when they get settled in to catch up. They moved, they didn’t die.

You can become close with the coaches while maintaining professionalism

My take on CW and really most of those covering ISU on CF or IA Everywhere.

Overall they do a great job. We have better sites and pods than most out there.
They are not perfect but we cant expect that. Its just the balance is off, because the obvious hok fans on there have no problem trolling ISU fans, but the Cyclone fans on there all try to be overly PC because they dont want to upset hoks.

I dont exactly have an issue with CW and his oversoft coverage of ISU. My biggest issue is it feels like there are some very outspoken Hok fans on those pods, that have no problem speaking down to Cyclones and trolling ISU fans. They also have no issue being critical of Iowa teams and coaches. But all of the ISU personalities are too afraid to do the same, they all are too PC, and too soft on everything from analysis of teams and coaches to how they treat and troll rivals, or at least how they return the jabs from rivals.

IA Everywhere has very outspoke hoks that are very willing to troll ISU, like Hassel and Downs etc. But people like CW are too worried about offending anyone to go after Hoks with the same vigor. Hell you have that Jackwagon Kurtz, the purple kitten, on his shows constantly **** talking Cyclones and no one on our side ever throwing it back at him. (I get he is not on these pods/sites, but just an example of someone that there needs to be someone willing to respond to his crap, same goes for other media personalities that talk crap about ISU and the B12, someone needs to be willing to respond to them)

They treat the team and coaches with the same kid gloves. I rarely ever hear any kind of criticism of anything from them on the teams and coaches. I get it, but at some point it comes off as kind of fake, and soft, and sometimes we need to hear something real, not fluff, and puff pieces, that never challenge anyone in the program.

We need a personality that is not constantly afraid to ruffle any feathers on the podcasts and coverages, they need to add someone to their staff that is willing to be real about the teams and program, and is willing to go toe to toe with the hok personalities, without fear of offending anyone. It is fine that CW is not that person, he has his roll, and mostly does a great job, but we all know he is never going to step on anyones toes, and he has to be that way for the most part because its his business, but there needs to be some on there that balance out the hok trolls. I am fine with the rest if we just had a balance of the personalities. I mean in reality everyone on CF should be 100% Cyclones and absolutely willing and able to talk **** to Hoks. I understand needing balance on IA Everywhere because it is for everyone, but it feels like everyone on there is either Hok fans or ISU fans, that are afraid of making Hok fans upset. So the balance is way off.

On Ia Everywhere, you can easily tell who the hok fans are, the same can not be said about ISU fans on there, most of the time.

I think all of that is true - CW is a real person and probably spent a lot of time talking to these people and developed relationships, etc. But even still, if nothing else he should stop airing these things on air to his listeners. Even a decade later, he still talks about Hoiberg as a personal friend and how we should all love the guy. Now add Campbell, and Rocco Becht. For most of us, all of these individuals left Iowa State and are no longer Cyclones, so we don't have an interest in hearing about them. The Rocco Becht pod that came out was especially awkward. I think the biggest thing that CW struggles with is understanding that the vast majority of fans and listeners do not have the kind of personal relationship with these players and coaches that he does. So all of this hits way differently for him than it does for us.

No ill will towards these former Cyclones, I understand it's a job for them. They have to look out for their own career. But it's not a job for us. We do not have personal connections to any of these people. If they're not at ISU, I'm not following them. I get that CW and others have a closer relationship with these people and there is no issue with them feeling however they want to personally about people who leave ISU. I'm willing to give them some slack for a while but they really need to cut the chord. Vent off the air to friends and family, watch Penn State games if you must, but keep that stuff out of CF.

Iowa Everywhere has content for both Iowa and ISU, but probably from a business perspective everyone over there understands that with the existence of CF the growth potential on IE is in catering more to Hawkeye fans.

Yes. JoPa was a fine fine example of how to do the right thing.

"To, man, spending so much of my childhood in Carmichaels, Pennsylvania. My great-grandfather who worked in the coal mines, my grandparents who worked in Carmichaels, Pennsylvania, and all you heard around these family discussions was Coach [Joe] Paterno and the toughness and the character of the Penn State football program."

Yes I guess that was my point, I know there are both on IA Everywhere, just that the ISU people are very muted compared to the hok fans there. Which throws the content off, as everything seems to have a hok slant to it. I wish there were personalities on there on the ISU side that had the same vigor as Hoks like Hassel and Downs do etc. That doesnt need to be someone like CW, but there needs to be someone, instead it just feels like hoks there are willing to troll Cyclones, while the Cyclones there, are all trying to appease hoks.

As far as CF there should be no restraint to **** talking other rivals and fanbases. Hoks have their own version of CF that has no problem **** talking ISU, so there is no reason an ISU focused production should not be able to do the same to them.

Not that he cares, but I told CW that I won’t listen to any Pod with Hassel or Downs on it. One can only do what one can do. My choice is to flip right past it. I feel better and I get some time back in my day.

I dont mind Hassel that much because I know he is just trying to troll or to be funny, I even tolerate Downs some too. My problem is there is no one giving it back with the same emphasis on our side. If there was someone willing to dish it back to them and counter their over the top TOE love, it would make it a more enjoyable listen.

This is how it goes... Hassel, "The Cyclones suck, you guys play in the G5 poverty 12." Downs, "Refs screwed over the Hoks and totally gave it to the Cyclones, but its totally ISUs Superbowl" Doctherman, "Iowa is a far better program than ISU, let me tell all the idiots that still read The Athletic so, in as many ways as possible, then blow some more smoke in you people listening here"

Every ISU person on there's reply, "Ha ha yeah we got lucky, Iowa did play really good, and the refs were not great, yeah its totally our superbowl, but you know we all root for the hawks when they arent playing the Cyclones, great game guys, you will get us next year, you guys are so great, its obvious we want to be like you we copy your colors, gee wiz guys I hope you like me"

I am happy for any coaches and players time at ISU, I will cheer for them as long as they are Cyclones.

But as far as Coaches and Players that choose to leave ISU for one reason or another, piss on them. I hope they find out the grass is not greener over there, I hope they find out it was a terrible decision to leave ISU. Especially when they preach loyalty and love for ISU then stab us in the back for the next pretty face.

Its their choice, it is the way of college sports today, I get it, in most cases they get a sweet deal we cant match, that doesnt mean I have to like it, I have to agree with it, nor have to cheer for it. I dont care to listen to Cyclone media members gush and cover for those that turned their back on ISU.

I dont have the same animosity towards those that left because they were forced to, or really even those that choose to step up to the pros etc.

At this point I moved on, and say Matt Campbell who?

Marcus Freeman is reportedly the top choice for the NY Giants.

How funny will it be for MC to be pedo state’s 8th choice when MI & ND are open?

You have to believe both would have been his choice over pedo. At least Mi unscrupulous behaviors involved adults.
