Rocco Becht undergoes surgery on non-throwing shoulder

What's the going recovery time on a labrum repair these days? As a young athlete with the PT and training available to him, I would imagine it is much faster than the 6 months it took me in my 30s.

Not surprising, exactly when his play went downhill. I wonder if it happened the play he was facemasked and targeted. That's what I always assumed.

No bowl means this is a few weeks earlier or Rocco wasn't going to play. I wonder if that played a part in the players decision. I still think it's the wrong one. You only get so many games.

Exactly my thought. If it was imminent that Rocco was headed to PSU I think they would have him wait and do the surgery there. You don’t have another vet work on your $2 million pony.
Agreed. I have a strong feeling that Rocco is gonna stay, and that some other important players will follow his lead.

My son plays small college baseball and had labrum surgery on his throwing shoulder last year. Outfielder, not a pitcher, it was 5 months before he was fully released. It's longer for pitchers.

Non-throwing shoulder will probably be 5 months without contact, at least 3 months before he could start throwing at 50 to 75 percent. By summer time he should be 100 percent.

AC joint sprain probably. This probably means no spring ball for Rocco. I would think it would make things tough for him to transfer to a different school and try to compete for a starting job if he can't compete in the spring?
Report said surgery on Lt. sh. torn labrum, which is in the shoulder socket. So it's not the AC joint.

If it was an AC sprain, either grade 2 or 3, grade 3 usually needing surgery, for an athlete, we would have known it. Grade 2 AC jt. sprains are very painful, and you can hardly move your arm for about a month. It happened to me, it's a *itch. That never happened to Rocco.

Edit: My bad CRCySpy, I did not fully read the context of your post. You were referring to the Rt. shoulder. My 2nd paragraph refers to the Rt. shoulder, but I was very unclear on that also. Who knows what he injured on his throwing shoulder.

Ignorant question:

Does ISU have any doctors and/or surgeons on staff?

A few years ago I had PT over at the UCSF Sports Medicine Center, and the impression they gave me was some of the therapists would moonlight for the Cal athletic department, but although the surgeons did a lot of work for them it was just by referral.

I guess I’d assume Rocco was on insurance that let him shop around for his own surgeon ?

Especially when the Ped St AD is the best ‘in the world’.

Surgery for torn labrum on non throwing shoulder. I believe some was saying that it was reported that he also(?) had a sprain of his throwing shoulder. Either the second report was wrong or he had both?

Did the throwing sh. report allude to what type of sprain? I would not doubt that Rocco might have sprained his Rt. sh. at some point as well. If true, then it could have been the AC or any number shoulder ligaments, perhaps both.

Usually Athletic injury reports are pretty vague, at least initially.

He's seeing as good of specialists as there are. Its not like the old days when they go see a guy thats the same caliber as as an 80 year old VA doctor. The old guy that just gave you horse cream.

I was just going to suggest maybe Rocco could forgo surgery and take horse dewormer. I hear that **** fixes everything.

But go ahead and trust Big Orthopedics if you want.

Horse cream was huge for years. Look it up. We used to use it in high school even. You rub that on whatever hurts and you aren't feeling anything for a while. The problem is when they used it it allowed people to play through serious injuries which only became worse. You can still buy it online. That stuff numbs up an injured part of your body as well as any narcotic painkiller does.

Oh, I definitely knew what you were talking about.

If he’s going, wouldn’t the PSU training staff and team doctors want to take a look and see what they think needs done?
I didn't see in the OP who did the surgery. Local or did Becht family arrange for another specialist.

Not like he's getting open heart surgery.
