Iowa State’s highest-rated recruit of the 2022 class will not have to travel far to make it to Ames.

Hunter Deyo, a four-star, 270-pound, 6-foot-3 defensive lineman from Council Bluffs, Iowa, will sign with Iowa State as part of the early signing day on December 15. His signing follows up a senior season that saw Deyo lead Lewis Central High School to the Class 4A state title with 42.5 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.

“I’ve talked a lot with the staff,” Deyo said. “I talked to Coach Campbell (Wednesday) and talked about all the rumors and that they weren’t true. It went well. Coach Heacock is coming down (Friday) for an in-home visit to kind of get to know each other.”

Deyo came in with offers from Arkansas, Kansas State, and Minnesota, but narrowed his top two between Iowa State and in-state rival Iowa.

The family feel in Ames swayed him.

“Iowa State and Iowa were my top 2,” Deyo said. “I picked Iowa State because it felt more like a family.”

Deyo established a connection with current Iowa State defensive lineman Blake Peterson.

The pair play similar positions but have bonded since Deyo visited Iowa State.

“It was cool to have Blake Peterson as my host player on my visit,” Deyo said. “I text with him a lot and watch him on film.”

CycloneFanatic will have more coverage as we approach National Signing Day on December 15. Stay tuned for more updates on the 2022 class.
