Iowa State wide receiver Joe Scates will finish his collegiate career elsewhere.

The former four-star recruit from Dayton, Ohio announced on Monday he’s entering the transfer portal after four years in Ames. He’s the second veteran Iowa State wide receiver to enter the portal in the past week, joining senior Tarique Milton.

Scates arrived in Ames with sky-high potential as the No. 266 recruiting nationally, No. 44 receiver and No. 8 player in Ohio as a member of the 2018 recruiting class.

His potential shined through in moments as he played in 11 games for Iowa State across three seasons, recording 16 receptions for 304 yards and four touchdowns but rarely showed the consistency Matt Campbell looks for in players that receive considerable playing time.
