Hoops recruiting update for the second July live period

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Iowa State coaching staff will be out in full force during the second July live recruiting period over the next several days.

Steve Prohm and his staff will make stops in Minnesota, Milwaukee, Georgia, Washington D.C. and Dallas before the second live period wraps up on July 17.

Here are a few notes on plans for this recruiting cycle.

*** One Iowa State coach was in D.C. on Wednesday to watch four-star Georgia guard Alex O’Connell.

Iowa State its hat into the ring with the 6-foot-5-inch, 170-pound, prospect earlier this year but he has seen his stock rise rapidly over the last few months. O’Connell is rated as the No. 67 player in the class by 247 composite, and the No. 18 shooting guard.

He has 18 other offers, including Louisville, Arizona State, Ole Miss and the home-state Georgia Bulldogs, so pulling this prospect out of SEC country could be tough, but he’s a long guard that can shoot the ball very well.

He has also been described as a deceptively good athlete by some of the evaluators at the major recruiting services.

*** Iowa State has been hard after Milwaukee forward Terrence Lewis for quite some time, and that plays a factor in the Cyclones having a 50 percent chance to land him according to the 247 Crystal Ball.

Steve Prohm was in Milwaukee on Wednesday and Daniyal Robinson will be there over the weekend to watch Lewis. If it wasn’t clear before, the 6-foot-5-inch, 180-pound, four-star is a definite priority for this staff.
