Recapping week one of the NFL season and how former Cyclones fared.
*** Leonard Johnson of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was able to start his 2013 campaign off on a postive note. Johnson wrapped up nine tackles (eight solo) and also one pass deflection in the Bucs’ 18-17 loss to the New York Jets.
*** Kelechi Osemele started his 17th consecutive game on the offensive line for the world champion Baltimore Ravens to kick off the season last Thursday. Osemele got the start at left guard in the Ravens’ 49-27 loss to the Denver Broncos.
*** Jake Knott got his NFL career kicked off on Monday Night Football for the Philadelphia Eagles. Knott was able to record his first career tackle, and only tackle of the night, in his team’s 33-27 win over the Washington Redskins. Knott was also a part of a critical onside kick recoverly with just over a minute to play for the Eagles.
*** Another former Cyclone that got playing time this past weekend was A.J. Klein of the Carolina Panthers. The rookie linebacker currently sits second on the depth chart at strong side linebacker for the Panthers. Klein did not record any stats in his time on the field in the Panthers’ 12-7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
*** There are currently seven former Iowa State players in the NFL. The other former Cyclones in the NFL include Tim Dobbins of the Houston Texans, Seneca Wallace of the Green Bay Packers and Ahtyba Rubin of the Cleveland Browns.
