COLUMBUS, Ohio – Iowa State golfer Scott Fernandez is tied for 20th after carding a second-round 74 at the NCAA Columbus Regional this afternoon. Fernandez matched his first round total to give him a tally of 148 through two rounds.
Fernandez got off to a rocky start today, bogeying two of his first three holes. The European Palmer Cup member regrouped to go 1-over the last 15 holes, including a birdie on his last hole.
Fernandez’ performance lifted him four spots after starting the day tied for 24th. The Cyclone star needs to be the highest individual finisher not among the top-five teams to advance to the NCAA Championship.
UNLV surged in the second round to take a share of the team lead with South Carolina at 584. The Rebels were led by individual leader Carl Jonson, who has 36-hole 140 total.
Fernandez will resume competition tomorrow, Saturday, for the third and final round of competition at the Scarlet course.
