Iowa State made history on Saturday… unfortunately.
The Cyclones lost to Kansas State 61-56 in Manhattan to finish their regular season 2-21 overall and 0-18 in Big 12 play. Iowa State joined TCU’s 2013-14 team as the only teams to finish the Big 12 regular season slate without a victory since the league went to its current 18-game format in 2011-12.
This was the Cyclones’ 22nd consecutive Big 12 loss dating back to last season. Iowa State finishes winless in conference play for only the second time in program history with 1936-37 being the other.
Solomon Young scored 18 points and four rebounds in 38 minutes of play. He was joined in double-figures by Jalen Coleman-Lands (19 points, 5 rebounds) while Javan Johnson was the team’s leading rebounder with 11.
As a team, the Cyclones shot just 35.8 percent from the field while hitting five 3-pointers on 21.7 percent shooting. Iowa State also turned it over 16 times against the Wildcat defense.
Iowa State will look to extend its season on Wednesday when it plays Oklahoma in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City.
