Midway through the afternoon on Saturday, three-star Texas safety Mason Chambers announced his commitment to Iowa State over Twitter.

Chambers — a member of the 2020 class — picked the Cyclones over SMU, Air Force, and Army, which won 11 games last season.

The standout from Schertz, Texas, is a 6-0, 190-pound safety. He’s rated as a three-star prospect by 247 Sports.

He’s also the program’s third recent commitment from the San Antonio area.

The Cyclones open the 2019 season at 11:00 a.m. August 31 against Northern Iowa at Jack Trice Stadium. The game will be televised by FS1.
