AMES — It was a no-brainer.

Trever Ryen‘s stellar performance in Saturday’s 45-0 washout win over Kansas has netted the swift senior the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week honor. The league announced its awards today.

Ryen ran back a punt return 68 yards for a touchdown. He also downed a pair of Colin Downing punts at the Jayhawks’ four and one-yard lines, respectively.

Oh, and Ryen recovered a fumble and caught one pass for seven yards, as well.

“Special teams, it gets the offense going and also get’s the defense going,” Ryen said after the win. “It gets everything rolling. … That can be a big momentum shift.”

Here’s ISU’s release on Ryen’s latest honor.
