It did not take long for Jake Remsburg to catch the eyes of Iowa State’s staff. Almost immediately after the 6-foot-6, 285-pound offensive tackle attended a camp in Ames this summer, Matt Campbell and the staff began the process of building a relationship.
The West Des Moines, Valley junior went back for another camp later in the summer then the staff went to watch him play live last Friday when the Tigers traveled to Fort Dodge. At that point, they had seen enough.
Following the Cyclones’ 17-7 loss to Texas Thursday night, Campbell pulled Remsburg and his family aside in the Bergstrom Football Complex and offered the 2019 prospect a scholarship.
“Very excited,” Jake’s father, Brad, said about his son’s reaction to earning his first collegiate offer in a phone interview with Cyclone Fanatic Friday afternoon. “He’s worked very hard for that and will continue to do so. Just excitement. He’s thankful to have an opportunity like that.”
Remsburg, who also attended Iowa’s loss to Penn State last week in Iowa City and plans to visit Kansas in the coming weeks, has played a key role in Valley’s 4-1 start to the season and No. 3 ranking in the Des Moines Register‘s Class 4A poll.
That role has allowed him to be impressive enough to earn an offer from the Cyclones. On the flip side, the staff has done enough to impress the Remsburgs early in the recruiting process.
“In my opinion, culture and relationships are two themes that have shown themselves through interactions with their staff,” Brad said. “I’ll also tell you that every individual associated with the Iowa State football program, from Coach Campbell to Coach (Tom) Manning, the assistant coaches, all the way down to the people who assist them with game day operations, are first class. First class people and couldn’t be more impressed with the professionalism with which they’re running their program.”
