Former Iowa State forward Georges Niang has been waived by the Indiana Pacers, according to a report by ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski. Iowa State’s second all-time leading scorer averaged 0.9 points and 0.7 rebounds in 23 games as a rookie for Indiana last season.

The Pacers will still be responsible for paying Niang $100,000 for the 2017-18 season. Niang was taken by Indiana with the 50th pick in the second round of the 2016 NBA Draft.
He entered the offseason vying for an opportunity to remain with the franchise and likely would have gotten one with a solid performance during the NBA Summer League in Orlando. Unfortunately, Niang suffered a left knee sprain just more than a minute into the first game of the summer and missed the remainder of the team’s games.

The news of Niang being waived comes just hours after it was announced former teammate Abdel Nader signed a four-year deal worth $6 million with the Boston Celtics.
Niang was the guest on a Cyclone Fanatic podcast earlier this week.
