Jarrod Uthoff wrapped up his official visit to Iowa State on Friday afternoon without making a commitment to head coach Fred Hoiberg.

This was to be expected though. Uthoff, a 6-foot-8 forward who is transferring away from Wisconsin, entered this trip to Ames planning to take his time in making his second college decision in two years. Uthoff, the state of Iowa’s 2011 Mr. Basketball (Cedar Rapids Jefferson), was strongly considering Iowa State as a destination out of high school. On this visit to Iowa State, he had a much better idea of what to look for in Ames.

“I have a better understanding of how Coach Hoiberg coaches,” said Uthoff. “I don’t know if I can describe it but he hadn’t coached a season the last time that he was recruiting me. Now I’ve seen how he coaches and know how he does things.”

Uthoff said that Hoiberg visions him playing primarily at the small forward position, while seeing some time at the four spot as well.

“He thinks that I would fit in really well there,” said Uthoff, who is heading back to Madison to prepare for his final exams.

“I talked to the academic people,” said Uthoff of the visit. “I talked to Jamie Pollard. I talked to all of the coaches. It was good. I just wanted to go in, see if I liked it, weigh my options and take my time.”

From here, it’s still fairly up in the air as to what will happen next. Earlier this week, Uthoff claimed that Florida and Marquette were showing him interest and that he could potentially visit each school. Uthoff said that he hadn’t yet scheduled anything with either school as of Friday afternoon. Uthoff officially visited Creighton last week.

Wherever Uthoff transfers, he will not be eligible to play next season. Uthoff will finally be eligible to play in 2013-14 as a sophomore.
