The NCAA Selection Committee debuted its Top-16 seeds for the first time this season on Saturday morning, and the Iowa State Cyclones were slotted in as the fourth overall seed and last No. 1 seed in the South Region.

NCAA Division 1 Men’s Basketball Selection Chair Keith Gill explained why Iowa State was selected ahead of UConn and Houston in the initial seedings. “The head-to-head on Monday between Iowa State and Houston and then UConn’s loss to Creighton made Iowa State [the last No. 1 overall seed].”
