Iowa State earned yet another commitment out of a Nebraska high school product for its 2026 class Monday in Tyrell Chatman.

The safety hails from Lincoln and is the program’s fifth commitment out of Nebraska thus far.

Chatman, a former Northern Illinois commit, chose the Cyclones over outside offer from Kansas State and Wyoming.

Chatman is rated as the No. 9 prospect out of Nebraska and the No. 77 safety in the 2026 class.

What it means: Iowa State has signed its second defensive back to the class, appearing to add Chatman as a cornerback.

Hank Poteat, the Cyclones’ cornerbacks coach, is tagged in Chatman’s post announcing his commitment.

The 6-foot-2, 170-pound product will go after the ball, collecting four interceptions and seven pass breakups during his junior year at North Star High School.

Chatman plays both ways in prep ball, also acting as a rushing quarterback. He had a 486 yards through the air along with 387 rushing yards and a combined 11 touchdowns on the offensive side.

The Cyclones are getting another solid athlete here that can develop in Ames if given the time.

The 2026 class: The bigger point on Chatman’s commitment is Iowa State’s effort in the state of Nebraska for the class.

It started with the commitment of ATH prospect Kaprice Keith, who is the younger cousin of Breece Hall, and it’s only grown from there.

Chatman is the fifth prospect out of Nebraska to commit to Iowa State, and the Cyclones have their eyes set on four more preps from the state to join the others who have already made things (verbally) official.

The four players listed as targets each have official visits scheduled to Ames this summer.

Here’s a look at the class as it stands right now.
