Iowa State men’s basketball matched its highest ranking in program history this week when the latest AP Poll release had the Cyclones at No. 3.

The new ranking comes after a week that saw Iowa State take down at-the-time No. 5 Marquette 81-70 Wednesday as well as a win over Jackson State 100-58 Sunday, both coming at Hilton Coliseum.

T.J. Otzelberger’s group comes in as the highest ranked of four Big 12 programs, along with No. 10 Kansas, No. 15 Houston and No. 22 Cincinnati.

Another three Big 12 teams in Baylor (150), Arizona State (143) and West Virginia (30) all received votes in the poll.

The Cyclones were last ranked No. 3 after defeating Wilt Chamberlain and the at-the-time No. 1 Kansas Jayhawks 39-37 at home on January 14, 1957.
