Iowa State has earned its third transfer portal commitment of the off-season from former Seattle University big Brandton Chatfield.

It’s the program’s third addition of the off-season, along with Nate Heise and Chatfield’s former Washington State teammate Dishon Jackson.

“It was really crazy – just, the whole thing was,” Chatfield said. “I’m still in awe, and I know both my parents are. It’s hard to believe it’s come true, and I’m able to go to such a great school that has been performing so well. I just hope I can just add to it.”

Chatfield averaged 9.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game during his last season with Seattle.

The 6-foot-10 forward will help Iowa State fill a void left by departures from last season’s roster.

“I love the coaching staff,” Chatfield said. “They’re all just really great guys and I love the way they structure their program. Everything about it just feels like the perfect trip.”

Before transferring to Seattle, Chatfield spent time at Washington State, where he played with Jackson as well as former Cyclones Jaz Kunc.

“Dishon is a really great player,” Chatfield said. “He’s always been a great guy. And I know he’s been working his butt off and stuff because he always was when I was at WSU, but yeah. And so is Jaz (Kunc). I know he’s doing well over in Poland right now, but he was another reason why I (chose Iowa State) because I know they love to recruit guys with similar characteristics to both me and jazz – just hardworking and go getters and stuff like that.”

Chatfield has one season of eligibility remaining.
