RECRUITING: Biliew, Momcilovic earn Gatorade Player of the Year honors

Iowa State signees Omaha Biliew and Milan Momcilovic were announced as Gatorade Players of the Year Wednesday for the states of Iowa and Wisconsin.

The pair of touted recruits are two of Iowa State’s three highest rated commits in program history and will take the court later this year in November.

Biliew’s 22.1 points and 9.9 rebounds per game wowed area high school crowds throughout the 2022-23 season.

Although it didn’t end with a state championship for Biliew, the hype hasn’t died down.

“A rare combination of strength, power and skill, Biliew has elite ability to play low-post defense, rebound, block shots and take charges,” ESPN’s National Director of Recruiting Paul Biancardi said in the announcement. “He’s a tremendous lob threat as well as a screen and roll target, but also, his 3-point point shot has developed and he’s become a viable threat to be a short, straight-line driver. What makes him special is he cares about his teammates and plays with big heart.”

Momcilovic averaged 22.8 points and 8.9 rebounds per game during his senior season at Pewaukee High School.

His awards seemingly don’t stop coming in.

“Momcilovic is a skilled forward who makes plays as a facilitator and as a scoring threat,” Biancardi said. “When you study his game, his footwork is on point, his shot and pass fakes are clever, allowing him to create space for his own shot and drive. Momcilovic knows how to draw fouls and has a great understanding on how to play both with and off the ball.”

Iowa State’s schedule will be announced far later in the year, but these two along with the rest of the 2023 class will arrive in Ames over the summer.
