WBB: Cyclones take down West Virginia, solidify No. 2 seed for Big 12 tournament

Iowa State’s women’s basketball team earned its 25th win of the regular season on Saturday, beating West Virginia 74-57.

Behind Emily Ryan’s 29 points, the Cyclones overcame a slow start to defeat the Mountaineers and sweep their seventh opponent in Big “12 play.

Ashley Joens finished with 12 points and nine rebounds. Lexi Donarski added 11 and six boards.

With the win, Iowa State will be the No. 2 seed at next week’s Big 12 tournament, facing the winner of West Virginia and TCU in the quarterfinal round of the playoff.

The team had a shot at not having either Baylor or Texas (the only two teams to beat Iowa State in the Big 12 season), but Oklahoma dropping a game to Kansas soiled the thought.

Iowa State will open conference tournament play on Friday night at 5:00 p.m. CT. TV assignments haven’t yet been announced by the conference itself, but fans should rely on ESPN+ for the first round game at least.
