Iowa State extended a scholarship offer to wide receiver/defensive back Ja’Keem Jackson on Tuesday night, becoming the first Power 5 school to do so.

The Osceola, Fla. high schooler currently holds an offer to Florida Atlantic and has received interest from West Virginia, Miami, Virginia Tech and Western Kentucky.

“I was like, this is crazy,” Jackson said. “I’ve been working really hard. Coach (Deon) Broomfield hit me up – they believe in me.”

Jackson, a 6-foot-2 180-pounder in the 2023 class, recently started playing two ways at defensive back and had three interceptions during his junior season.

Bloomfield and the Iowa State staff intend to bring him in to play defense.

“He said I’m long, I’m fast and I’ve got good ball skills,” Jackson said.

Jackson has talked with Bloomfield and spoke to other potential Iowa State targets Braeden Marshall, a four-star cornerback, and three-star safety Zach Tobe.

“We’d be a good fit there,” Jackson said. “We live in Florida, so like it’s real hot. We’ve just got to get used to the cold.”
