Iowa State football and men’s basketball both added key pieces to the 2019 classes last week. Football also hosted their first summer camp last Saturday, resulting in two new commitments for the 2020 class.
Steve Prohm filled his sixth and (currently) final scholarship for 2019 with transfer guard Rasir Bolton (Penn State/Woodstock, Va.), who chose the Cyclones over other finalists of Cincinnati and Colorado State following visits to all three schools. He has three years to play and is seeking a waiver for immediate eligibility, which should be decided in approximately three weeks.
JUCO wide receiver Darren Wilson (Butler C.C./El Dorado, Kan.) committed to Iowa State over West Virginia. The Cyclones offered recently on May 1st and he started his official visit May 17th. Wilson and the addition of Arkansas graduate transfer La’Michael Pettway will help bridge the inexperience gap at receiver.
Iowa State offered offensive tackle Brady Peterson (Ankeny, Iowa) during his camp visit on Saturday, and less than 24 hours later, Peterson announced his commitment to the Cyclones. Peterson has been a lifelong ISU fan and has been rapidly climbing the recruiting rankings, now sitting at the No. 55 OT and No. 699 overall. He had previously visited Ames on three occasions: November 10th, 2018; March 28th; and April 13th.
The No. 2 long snapper in the country also pledged to Iowa State following his attendance at camp. Koby Hathcock (Mesa, Ariz.) picked up an offer on May 13th.
BASKETBALL:
*** The Cyclones offered JUCO shooting guard Jayden Scrubb (John A. Logan College/Louisville, Ky.). Scrubb also has offers from Alabama, Eastern Kentucky, Louisville, Murray State, and Xavier.
*** Iowa State offered center Jaylin Williams (Fort Smith, Ark.) last weekend. Williams holds offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Illinois, LSU, Oklahoma State and TCU.
*** Point guard KK Robinson (Bryant, Ark.) was the third 2020 offer since the last update. He holds offers from TCU, Appalachian State, Louisiana Tech, Oral Roberts, Southern Miss and UTEP.
*** Power forward Jamari Sibley (Milwaukee, Wisc.) included ISU in his top 10 schools which he released on Twitter. He has at least 19 P6 offers, picking up one from Iowa State on August 8th, 2018.
FOOTBALL:
*** Iowa State offered 2019 JUCO offensive guard Mose Jeffery (Kilgore J.C./Longview, Texas) on a visit May 20th.
*** Defensive end Aaron Witt (Winona, Minn.) decommitted from Minnesota and visited Iowa State the following weekend. He has setup official visits to Ames on June 14th and Iowa City June 21st.
*** Safety Teagan Wilk (Berwick, Pa.) visited Ames on May 18th. Wilk was offered back in Feburary. He released a top six on Twitter this week listing Iowa State along with East Carolina, Eastern Michigan, Massachusetts, Miami (OH) and Old Dominion.
*** Five of eight commits for 2020 were in town for camp on Saturday: PQB Aidan Bouman, OLB Cole Pederson, OT Tyler Miller, OT Brady Peterson and LS Koby Hathcock. The class is currently ranked No. 33 by 24/7 Sports Composite.
*** Iowa State hosted some visitors for a camp on June 1st that hold offers. Class of 2020 priority defensive end target Blaise Gunnerson (Carroll, Iowa) has visited more than a handful of times, and will return again for his official visit the weekend of June 21st. The class of 2021 saw defensive end Jeff Bowie (West Branch, Iowa) and offensive tackles Brody Wisecarver (St. Louis, Mo.) and Bastian Swinney (Minneapolis, Minn.) at camp.
*** The staff is still after a JUCO offensive lineman for 2019. ISU made the top six for Iowa Western offensive tackle Jacob Gamble Friday and gave out a recent offer to OG Mose Jeffery.
*** The Cyclones made top lists for multiple targets in the 2020 class. Defensive ends Noah Arinze (Top 10) and Kevo Wesley (Top 8), tight end Drake Dabney (Top 8), athlete Anthony Romphf (Top 7) and running back Sevion Morrison (Top 10) all included Iowa State.
