Recruiting Roundup: July 7, 2018

Iowa State picked up a commitment from offensive tackle Jarrod Hufford (Newark, Ohio) on Monday.  Hufford was rated by the 247 Composite this week as the No. 98 OT and No. 1068 overall.  ISU offered on March 5th and he took his official visit to Ames the weekend of June 15th.  The 6’5″, 300-pound prospect chose ISU over power offers from Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Rutgers, Syracuse, Virginia and West Virginia.

The second commitment this week came today from running back Jirehl Brock (Quincy, Ill.), who has long been a top target for the staff.  He was offered back in April of 2017 and visited multiple times since, taking his official visit the weekend of June 22.  Brock initially released a top 5 which included ISU, Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern and Purdue with plans to take an official visit to each. He later cancelled visits to Iowa and Purdue. The 247 Composite ranks him as the No. 11 RB and No. 212 overall in the class of 2019.

BASKETBALL LATEST:

*** The Cyclones and Georgia are recruiting power forward Luke Anderson (Lakeland, Fla.) the hardest, according to this Rivals article by Dan McDonald.  He is rated as the No. 32 PF and No. 155 overall.  ISU was his first major offer back on August 8th.

*** Iowa State offered a pair of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. prospects at the end of last week.  Combo guard Wesley Cardet Jr. and small forward Jordan Shorter became the second and third offers of the 2021 class, after offering shooting guard Dallan Coleman (Callahan, Fla.) a few days prior.  All three also hold an offer from Florida, and Cardet Jr. has an additional offer from St. Louis.

*** In-state power forward Xavier Foster (Oskaloosa, Iowa) made another visit to Ames on June 29th according to Matthew Bain of the Des Moines Register.  The class of 2020 prospect has 10 P6 offers already with more sure to come.

FOOTBALL LATEST:

*** Athlete Jalen Graham (Detroit, Mich.) is looking to visit Iowa State, Minnesota, Pittsburgh and Purdue according to Allen Trieu of 247 Sports.  He is rated as the No. 66 athlete in the class and holds 11 total P5 offers.  The Cyclones offered back on December 16th and he visited May 19th.

*** Another ISU related article this week from Brian Haenchen of the Sioux Falls Argus Leader, this one with current Cyclone defensive end commit Blake Peterson (Beresford, S.D.).  He was an early offer in February 2017 and has visited double digit times, with a commitment March 23rd this year.  Read more about his recruitment and relationship with another ISU target, OT Grant Treiber (Sioux Falls, S.D.).

*** Running back Breece Hall (Wichita, Kan.), who committed to Iowa State last week, received a rating boost this week.  He moved up 21 spots at the RB position to No. 49 and 238 spots overall to land at No. 796.

*** Another recent Cyclone commit has been rated by the 247 Composite this week. Outside linebacker Aric Horne (Jacksonville, Fla.) is ranked No. 36 at his position and No. 873 overall, giving Iowa State 10 players ranked in the top 1000 for the 2019 class.
